We all have a mother, but some of us were blessed to have a God believing, Bible reading, and a prayer warrior for a Mama. She was probably a United Methodist Woman. Many of you have shared your experiences of yourself as a child of one of these women. Perhaps that is why we are still this organized unit of women serving the missions set forth and praising God. We now need to remember the experiences we have had as United Methodist Women. Take time to share them with the younger women in our presence. No one is too young to hear about us or see the evidence of our work. United Methodist Women get things done. Just ask us, we will be happy to tell you. Fun and fellowship is a part of us too. God blesses us over and over and more is accomplished in numbers. I challenge us to increase in number. I challenge the number of women under forty to be larger than us seasoned women. This can be accomplished through work and prayer, let s get busy and make this happen with God in change. Yours in Christ, Doris F. Murray Rev. Frederick N. Yebuah District Superintendent ordist@umcsc.org The complete calendar listing may be found on page 9

March 2017 The Lantern 2 Greetings United Methodist Women, I pray that each and every one of you celebrated a beautiful Mother's Day! You are all a blessing in the lives of your children and families and the many of lives you touch to ensure that other children and families enjoy those blessings as well. A True Angel A mother is special, she's more than a friend. Whenever you need her, she'll give you a hand. She'll lead you and guide you in all that you do. Try all that she can just to see you get through. Good times and bad times, she's there for it all. Say head up, be proud, and always stand tall. To Rev. Robert Reeves and the lovely United Methodist Women of St. Paul United Methodist Church, thank you for hosting Day Apart. It was a great day of celebration. We enjoyed a day of giving, worship, praise, games, and delicious food. We also heard a beautiful message from Ms. Selena Ruth Smith, Deaconess, and Limitless Team Coordinator. Her message inspired us to keep doing God's work by loving and caring for others. Thank you to all the churches who participated on May 13, 2017, in the Spring Into Missions Event. Your kindness and generosity will benefit a lot of people. To all Local Unit Presidents, it is time to prepare for our District Annual Meeting, which will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 8:30 a.m. Canaan United Methodist Church, Cope, SC. To make this event a success, I need you to complete the President's Report form and return it to me. My address is at the bottom of the President's Form. Please call or email if you have any questions. Thank you for your commitment to UMW and making lives better for others. Be Blessed, Sonya S. Benjamin

March 2017 The Lantern 3 UMW TREASURER S REPORT Kindness starts simply. An encouraging word. A loving gesture. A tender sentiment sent through the mail or e-mail. A thoughtful small token. The gift of unhurried time. A rousing pep talk. Simply vowing to speak and act in a way that is gentle and kind is the starting point. By Karen Ehman in her book Listen, Love, Repeat Aesop was right. No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted. Your kindnesses and generosity at all our unit, district, and conference events have been so amazing. Thank you for your generosity and support through your quarterly remittances to all our UMW missions, locally, nationally, and globally. I would like to thank all of you who have sent in their 2017 pledges to MISSION GIVING and your 2016 audits. IF your unit is one of the few who have not done so, please try to get them in to me as soon as possible. Remember that you cannot be recognized as a MISSION TODAY UNIT at our annual UMW September meeting if you do not pledge to MISSION GIVING and meet your pledge. Treasurers, please send your second quarter remittances to me by June 5. Please remember to send your third quarter remittances to me by September 1. Please examine 1st quarter financial reports given in this issue of The Lantern. If my records don t agree with you, please let me know. Remember: When you send in your $40 for Special Mission Recognition and do not identify a name, a pin and certificate will still be sent to you. The name of the honoree will be left blank for you to fill out as you identify that person for the year. March 2017 The Lantern 12 Dear Fabulous Ladies of the Orangeburg District, Gree[ngs. The ladies who run the shelter were overwhelmed. They expressed great apprecia[on for the loaded purses and indicated the excess products would be welcomed by men, women and children.
