IMPORTANT DATES GATHERINGS At Men s Candlelight 7:30 pm Saturday, March 21, 2009 Lutherlyn All Community Gathering Ingomar UMC, Friday, April 17 Regional Gathering North, South, East and Central Friday May 8, 2009 SPRING WALKS Lutherlyn Men s Walk #69 March 19-22, 2009 Women s Walk #70 March 26-29,2009 FALL WALKS Men s Walk #71 November 5-8, 2009 Women s Walk #72 November 12-15, 2009 Community Registrar: Joan Burnette 724-625-4933 trwejoan@zoominternet.net IF YOU CHOOSE TO GET YOUR NEWSLETTER BY U S MAIL, PLEASE SEND A CHECK FOR $8 FOR A ONE YEAR SUBSCRIPTION TO: Tom Gomola: c/o Leesburg Presbyterian 1831 Perry Highway Volant, Pa 16156-1521 Newsletter Part 2 It s the eleventh hour... or, well, maybe it s ten-thirty. The Spring Walks are scheduled to begin in just two weeks and the number of confirmed pilgrims is just nine. The report from Registrar, Joan Burnette, is that there are some people asking questions about sponsorship but we need more confirmed pilgrims. We are in danger of having to postpone this set of Walks. The first request is that as a Community we begin to pray, asking God s help and guidance for these upcoming Walks. Second, pray for personal guidance as you ask God, Is there someone you would like me to sponsor? Can you keep that prayer in your head for the next couple of days listening for God s pilgrim for #69 and #70? The answer might be someone you have invited in the past, but said no at that time. The answer might be a coworker who you have known for a long time but didn t know they have a yearning in their heart for something missing in their lives. The answer might be your child s Sunday School teacher or someone in the Church Choir. The answer might be someone you ve worked with on Angel Food or Habitat for Humanity or a Church fundraiser. Third, pray, as you pick up the phone and ask, Can we get together? I d like to share some information with you about the upcoming Walk to Emmaus. The dates are set. The place is ready. The teams are preparing their hearts to greet these pilgrims with the joy and love of Christ himself. The biggest concern of eleventh hour sponsorship is that you can gather the 12 Sunday Agape letters for your pilgrim. Oh, yes, pray about that, too. Scholarships are available. Participation in Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus now qualifies for a Continuing Education Credit. One full credit is available for participation as a Pilgrim this might be an added incentive for sponsorship. And one full credit is available for full participation on team. The Three Rivers Board is pleased to have the recognition that the Walk to Emmaus is an educational as well as spiritual event for United Methodist Certified Lay Speakers and Clergy. Records of participation will be kept through the Board of Directors and a Certificate of Credit will be mailed to those receiving the CE Credit. Credit for Clergy will be automatic. Certified Lay Speakers will need to contact Pat Mould (Board Secretary) patmould@gmail.com or 724-775-1327 to receive their certificate. Sign-up for the Prayer Vigil and 4 th Day Help As the new TRWE Community 4th Day Coordinator, I'm writing to all the Emmaus folks I know with a reminder about the various 4th Day opportunities for the upcoming Walks and beyond. I thank God for all the service that's been done in the past, which has in some way or another impacted where the community is now, which of course will have an impact on the Walks of the future, and who knows what will be impacted by that. Many of you have already signed up for prayer-times and/or 4th day service for the upcoming Walks and I thank you for that, and I know the pilgrims will be blessed as a result. As always, signups have been light for serving breakfast and lunch, as well as cleaning bathrooms, and ESPECIALLY on Sundays. There's also plenty of space on the prayer vigils. Some of you may be blessed by attending a church that offers the option of attending services on Saturday nights or Sunday nights. This can allow us the flexibility to serve on Sundays when for most people that would cause them to have to skip worship at their own church. If this is the case for your church, would you prayerfully consider if that might be an option for you? For more info, go to www.trwe.org or you can contact me at 412-833-2944. Mike Varner, Community 4 th Day Coordinator

Dear Community Members, If you would be willing to serve on a committee to oversee and coordinate the Community's literature needs we need your help. If you have a passion for literature or feel called to give us a hand please contact Gary Wakefield, CLD, before the next Board of Directors meeting which will be held Saturday, March7th. DeColores! G. Wakefield, 724-794-2557/ gcwakefield@zoominternet.net AGAPE FOR THE WALKS Can you remember your walk and how you felt when you received agape for the first time? What a wonderful outpouring of unconditional love from members of the Emmaus Community this is. Now you have an opportunity to do the same for the upcoming Men and Women s Walks. Below are some guidelines that will help you and our Team members to create a wonderful experience of love for our Pilgrims: 1. Agape must be completed before bringing it to the camp. All the Team members are very busy and will need every minute to prepare for the Pilgrims. 2. Agape should be brought to the camp on Thursday night if possible, but no later than Saturday evening before Candlelight. Please remember that bedtime agape for Saturday will be distributed around 7:00 pm. If there is any problem with getting your agape to the camp, please contact: Flo Willaman, 6 Louis Court, Irwin, PA 15642 724-744-0125 floziejean@windstream.net. 3. Agape can be made for the following situations: Figures based on 20 pilgrims MEN s WALK #69 WOMEN S WALK #70 _20_ Pilgrims only _20_ Pilgrims only _30_ Pilgrims, Table Leaders, ATLs _32_ Pilgrims, Table Leaders, ATLs _44_ All Conference Room _46_ All Conference Room _47_ Dining Room _50_ Dining Room _58_ Pilgrims and Team _60_ Pilgrims and Team Note: Please try to add a few extra pieces for last minute additions. 4. Please label all agape with the following information: Your name or reunion group name. How many pieces and to whom they should be distributed to (Pilgrims only, Team and Pilgrims, etc.) When you would it to be distributed (bedtime Saturday, Conference Room, Dining, etc.) Unused Agape can be picked up on Sunday Closing for both walks. If you are not able to attend, you will still be able to pick up your Agape at the next gathering. Agape letters for Sunday If you are a Sponsor and are bringing letters for your Pilgrim, please make sure there are 12 letters bundled. These letters should be family and closest friends, etc. Remember these are the letters they will read first. The envelopes should be marked on the lower left-hand corner with family, friend, etc. All others will be held and given to the Sponsor at Closing. If at all possible, please try to deliver letters before Candlelight on Saturday. It is helpful for the Agape team to be able to set up the Sunday Packets as soon as possible. Also, identify yourself as the Pilgrim s Sponsor when delivering the packets to Agape. Please remember there are to be no gifts for any member of the Walks, Pilgrims or Team. If you have something you would like to give, it should be done on the way home. Thank you Three Rivers Walk to Emmaus Community for showing the Pilgrims on the Men s Walk #69 and the Women s Walk #70 the love of Christ through your gifts of Agape. God Bless Flo Willaman Agape Chairperson
