St. Catherine of Siena Parish TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME September 9, 2018 Words from our Patron Saint We are of such value to God that He came to live among us...and to guide us home. He will go to any length to seek us, even to being lifted high upon the cross to draw us back to Himself. We can only respond by loving God for His love. Covenant Scholarships for Catholic Educa on No child of a registered parish family will be denied the opportunity of a Catholic educa on at any local CSGK Catholic elementary school due to financial need. Applica on packets are available in the front office or on our website under who-we-are/links/. If you have ques ons, please contact Melissa Anderegg at (269) 381-2646. Ken's Kaleidoscope September 9, 2018 The crew cleaning the church says there are a remarkable number of pills being found in the church (people take pills during Mass?). Anyway, our concern is that children crawling on the floor may find them and place them in their mouths. PLEASE -- if you drop medicine (or anything else for that ma er) please find it and discard it so that a child does not become sick. I believe our parish must be a place of Welcome -- a place of re-birth, healing, mercy, nourishment, renewal, growth, & health; a place where we don't get swamped by our shame, fear, despair, grief, or hopelessness; where we don't just babble, but where we clearly ar culate who we are and what our place is in this world. I believe our parish must be a place of Hospitality for all -- a place of solidarity; a home with space for everyone; a place where all are welcome. Every person who walks in our doors should know that "no ma er my history; no ma er what causes me shame or guilt I am welcome here." The purpose of the church is not to demonize those who are different than we are, who think differently, who might agree on the problem but might have a different solu on. Rather, we engage by listening, and understanding, and responding with integrity. When we engage, we seek to connect we want to build bridges, not blow them up. In the church, we try to connect with others based on our common values (values that flow from the Gospel). We look closely at situa ons where Gospel values are not being met, and then we Engage in order to bring the Gospel where it has not been heard and believed. We come to church to listen and learn; to be nurtured & strengthened; and then we go forth! When Mass ends, we don't just leave; our mission con nues. When Mass ends, the image is an arrow going forward, not a period that means "the end." Thanks be to God!
