Parents, I encourage you, as the greatest influence over your children, reading God's Word with your children is important. And living the Word of God in front of your children is even more essential. Share the words with them and then give them a living example to see. With God's help, we can do all things. The following article comes from www.raisinggodlychildren.org. It is a great resource for Christian parents to be encourage in their raising up the next generation of Christians. Here are 10 Things I had to remind myself today when the job of correcting my children felt especially difficult 1. You disobey the Lord and He is the perfect Father. 2. His kindness leads us to repentance. 3. God disciplines those He loves. 4. Your child s disobedience does not measure your value any more than his obedience showcases your achievement. 5. Your child s disobedience teaches you dependence on God. 6. And sometimes it s more than dependence He s after, it s complete desperation for Him. 7. Your child is clearly a sinner, and needs to hear the truth of the Gospel, and see it lived out through you. 8. Times of correction serve to remind, or establish within your child, his own sense of need for a Savior. 9. It's not good behavior you really desire...you want his heart. 10. Your child is a person, not a project. Those Serving This Sunday, Feb 2 Toddler Nursery: Sara & Dania Unruh Infant Nursery: Carolyn King
Hello GCN Family! We are happy to report that the winter retreat was a great discipleship event. Students and sponsors were able to reflect one themselves and their relationship with God and their relationship with one another. We look forward to more times like this event where we can grow spiritually and individually. Thank you so much for the prayers and thoughts over the weekend! They were felt and were greatly appreciated! This Sunday evening MOMENTUM YOUTH will be headed to the Hinojos household for their annual Souper Bowl of Care. Students and participants are encouraged to bring in 2 canned good or 2 boxes of Mac & Cheese to be donated to the local food pantry at the Emmaus House. For more questions over that please ask Pastor Jamie. We would like to announce that Sunday Feb. 9th the whole church community is invited to enjoy a spaghetti dinner following the morning worship service in the fellowship hall. This dinner will be benefit the student ministry Mission Trip to Denver this summer. The cost of this event will be close to $350 per person. We are hoping to fundraise half, if not most of that, between now and June. Any level of your participation is greatly appreciated! We simply would like to promote missions to and through our teens and fellowship through a meal together at church. Hope you plan to join us! A huge THANK YOU to all of our Dillion's card users! As a result of your use of the card we have received another check from Dillion's for another $250! Thank you! If you haven't been able to use your card, please don't fret, but we would love to encourage you to begin using it! Every dollar counts. 2014 Club 52 Members thank you for signing up! Each new member and returning member has to sign up again.your membership does not automatically renew. So, if you were a member last year and would like to continue on our records and receive our quarter newsletter amongst other things, please resign-up if you have not already. We cannot explain how much your prayers and financial support are both huge contributors to our Student Ministries. I believe we have 42 members this year. We would love to reach our goal of 52 members. We are looking for people who would prayerfully consider praying for and sponsoring the youth ministry at GCN (Momentum Student Ministries) through $1 a week donation for the year. This is where the number 52 comes into play. If anyone feels unable to commit to financial support, but could do the prayer partnership, please sign up! To those whom have questions on how to pay towards the club 52, the donation would go through the church records and giving statements for your tax purposes. $1 per week or a $52 donation made out to the Church of the Nazarene with Club 52 mentioned in the memo and the amount towards club 52 and/or tithe. The reason I explain this in such detail is due to being asked by a few individuals who were wondering how to give. Thank you so much for asking and participating! Our first quarterly newsletter will come out in March. And members, make sure you come by the office and grab your 2014 calendar if you have not received one yet. College & Career - The Circle - Young Adults Wednesday Evening the group will be discussing the latest chapter from the book the Awakening of Hope Why we practice a Common Faith. The topic of discussion will be over "Why we share the Good News." If you are able to join Wednesdays at 7, please do. We are also looking for a place to host watching the Super Bowl and/or the possibility of joining the youth at the Hinojos house. Lets talk about it tomorrow night! To Life! Jamie
