2 2 From the desk of the Pastor Everyday Stewardship As the bap zed, we are called into community, and we are strongest when all members have full faith in Jesus Christ. When one of us falters or begins to doubt his or her faith, that is when our faith is to be shared freely as a source of strength. If we hold our faith inside, then those around us will miss a chance to be edified and strengthened by our witness. We can give freely of our money, our me, and our talents but s ll not share our faith with those around us. This hinders the Body of Christ's ability to evangelize and spread the Good News. It also helps to keep members of that Body weak, because without the chance to hear our stories of faith, those with the need to hear can remain discouraged and lost. Faith is a gi from God to us, just like any other. We are called to cul vate our faith and grow it into abundance. If we do not share it with others, then why grow it at all? We are not saved because we have more faith than someone else. We are no be er off with storage bins filled with knowledge, devo on, and faith experience than a baby on its day of bap- sm. The difference between the baby and us is that we have something now to share and the responsibility to do so. -Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS Who we are and all we have......is a Gi from God! A way to give back: GOOD SAMARITAN INN: The mission of the Good Samaritan Inn is to provide opportunity to the economically disadvantaged in the community. They focus on those in need by feeding the hungry and providing job training. Volunteers are needed Monday through Sunday from 9:00 to 11:00 to prepare food for the meals and from 11:00 to 1:00 to serve food. To volunteer for this ministry call Francie at GSI - 429-1455 Following Jesus today Invite someone you know back to Mass! You can be a great ambassador for our parish Dear Parishioners and Friends, Many thanks for the prayers, calls, messages, emails, visits, cards, flowers and gi s over this past two weeks! You are so kind and caring! This past Tuesday I was discharged from the ARC at St. Mary s. They did a great job of helping me be mobile and able to take care of myself in half the me they originally thought. There will be much more therapy once the breaks are healed. Thanks to Father Joe Molloy for all his personal support and help in making sure the Masses at our parish are covered while I am recovering. We are blessed that he is our Dean for Decatur. Thanks to my brother priests for their prayers and support and for being so willing to help with all the Masses. Thanks to Fr. Fredrick and Fr. Peters for covering last weekend and for Fr. Kuse for covering this weekend and next. Thanks to Fr. Nick for covering the weekday Masses. So, what is broken: A stabilizing bone in the right ankle; right collar bone; right shoulder blade; and ribs, about a rack. There are several scrapes and bruises around my body mostly on the right side. What happened? A er changing plans to ride my Honda 750 Shadow to the Sullivan nursing homes, because of the weather forecast for rain, I went instead to visit a home bound parishioner and then to Hickory Point Chris an Village to visit some of our people. I was returning to the rectory at St. Patrick by way of Main Street and a car ran the stop sign at Kenwood Ave. This is when the Grace of God and Motorcycle Safety Founda on training took over. I braked and laid the cycle down, hit the road and slid. Thus the injuries on my right side. And, Yes, I was wearing a helmet, boots, gloves, jeans, jacket and a clergy shirt. How long will it take to get be er? It depends on how long it takes to heal and progress through therapy. My right food and arm are non weight bearing for four to six weeks. During this me of recovery, not only of the bones, but of stamina I will spend some me at the home of one our re red priests, Fr. Chiola. It is a residence on one level. Which is recommended at this me. With the doctor s permission I plan to spend me with by brothers in Florida for part of my healing. Months ago I purchased an airline cket to visit July 2-13. Perhaps being with family will speed my recupera on. God will bring good from this! Again, thank you for your prayers and please keep praying for me to the Lord. You remain in my daily prayers. God bless you, Fr. John For a medical emergency call the our parish office or Fr. Joe Molloy at Holy Family, 423-6223.
