Seth: Why do my parents always make me do things I don t want to do? I hate chores!
(Enters Sedition who walks up to the Seth.) Sedition says heartily: Hello! Seth grumbles: Hi. Sedition sits next to child: What s your problem? Seth: I didn t do my chores this morning, so my parents told me I couldn t play with my friends until I did. Sedition: You shouldn t listen to your parents anyway. Seth looks at companion, surprised: Why? Sedition stands up: No one said you had to listen to them. Seth: But wouldn t it be wrong to disobey my parents? Sedition: No, people just want you to think it s wrong. After all, I think you re old enough to make your own decisions. Hey, why won t you come and meet my friends? Seth shrugs and stands: Sure. (Enters Preacher Man with Bible in hand.) Preacher Man calls Seth s name: Hello, Seth. Sedition says, disgusted: Ugh, you again. Seth: Hello, Preacher Man. Preacher Man: Do you know who that is? (Seth shakes head.) Preacher Man: His name is Sedition. Seth: Se What? Preacher Man: Sedition. He makes people think it s alright to disobey authority. Sedition: Don t listen to him! He just wants you to be a slave to your parents for the rest of your life. Preacher Man: Seth, did you know that the Bible says in Ephesians chapter 6 verse 1, Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Sedition: Let s go, we don t have to listen to this hogwash. Preacher Man: Seth, did you know that God wants you to listen to your parents? The Bible says in Colossians chapter 3 verse 20, Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Seth: God wants me to obey my parents? Sedition grabs Seth by the arm: Goodbye, Preacher Man! (Sedition drags Seth away before the Preacher can say anything more.) Act II Strife (Seth and his sister Tabitha enter room and begin fighting.) Seth: I told you to mop the floor. Tabitha: That s your chore. Seth: I don t care; I want you to do it! Tabitha: I don t want to.
(Strife walks in.) Strife: Yeah, he told you to mop the floor. Tabitha: Who are you? Strife: I m Strife. Seth: I said mop the floor! Tabitha: No! Seth: Yes! Tabitha: No! Seth: Yes! Tabitha: No! Seth: Yes! Strife cheers all the while Seth and Tabitha argue: Fight! Fight! Fight! Tabitha turns to Strife: Hey, you! Be quiet! Strife: You don t have to put up with this, you know. (Tabitha exits while stomping her feet. Preacher Man enters.) Preacher Man: Seth, were you fighting with Tabitha? Strife slings arm over Seth s shoulder: So nosey. Preacher Man looks at Strife: What are you doing with Strife? Seth: He s one of Sedition s friends. Preacher Man: Strife s name means that he starts fights. He isn t someone you should be with. Strife takes his arm off Seth and puts hand over heart: That hurts...that really, really hurts. Preacher Man: The Bible says in Philippians chapter 4 verse 3, Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Seth: What does that mean? Preacher Man: It means that you should not think highly of yourself but of others. Especially with those you fight with. You should treat your sister with more respect. Strife yawns: I m bored! Let s go find something else to do. Good riddance, Preacher! (Strife grabs Seth s arm and exits.) Act III Wrath (Enters Wrath and Seth.) Wrath: Your brother stinks! I can t believe he would steal your snack! Seth: He s such a pig! Wrath: No, a COW! Seth: As fat as an elephant! Wrath smacks right fist into his left hand: I say we go teach your brother a lesson. Seth: Good idea. (Enters Dakota eating snack. Seth and Wrath eye Dakota up and down while arms are crossed.)
Dakota nods at Wrath and Seth: Good snack! (Seth and Wrath grab Dakota and Seth is about to punch him when Preacher Man runs up and stops Seth.) Preacher Man: That s enough. Dakota runs off: You ll never get my snack! Wrath: Preacher? Why is it you always appear at the wrong time? Preacher Man: Seth, why are you trying to punch your brother? Seth: He stole my snack! Preacher Man: That s it? Just because he stole your snack? Seth looks down at floor and mumbles: Yeah Preacher Man: If you are not careful, anger will make you do bad things. Why are you with Wrath? Wrath rolls eyes and groans: Not that again! Seth: He s Strife s friend. Preacher Man: The Bible says in Ephesians chapter 4 verses 31 and 32, Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Seth: What does that mean? Preacher Man: It means that you shouldn t be with Wrath or get angry, no matter how big or small the problem is. Instead, we should forgive each other. If you had taken something from your brother, would you want him to call you names and always be angry at you or forgive you? Seth shrugs: Forgive, I guess. Preacher Man: Seth, did you know that no matter what we do wrong, Jesus forgives us? Did you know that he died for our sins so that we could live in Heaven with him? Wrath: Alright, Preacher Man, that s enough for one day! (Wrath grabs Seth by the shoulder and exits.) Act IV Hatred (Seth, Leah, & Hatred enter. All sit on chairs looking through books.) Hatred looks at Leah: I hate you. Leah looks at Hatred: What? Hatred: You smell bad. Seth laughs: That s true. Leah smells her shirt: I do not! You re not very nice. Hatred: Nice or not, I still hate you for smelling bad. Seth: I hate your dress. Really ugly. Hatred: I hate people for smelling bad. Seth: I hate people who don t know how to dress right. Leah stands and begins crying: You guys are so mean! (Preacher Man enters.)
Hatred: Oh, great him again. Preacher Man: Hatred, what are you doing here? Hatred: I hate you. Seth: Um hi, Preacher. Preacher Man: Seth, why are you with Hatred? Seth: He s Wrath s friend. Preacher Man: Did you just say mean things to Leah? Hatred: Yeah, we told her that we hate her. Preacher Man: Hate is a strong word, Seth. You know, the Bible says in Galatians chapter 5 verse 14, For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. This verse means that we should love other people even if they look or act different. Hatred: I hate this conversation. Preacher Man: Seth, would you like someone to come up to you and say they hated you? Seth: I don t know. Preacher Man: God loves all of us, even when we do wrong. The Bible says in John chapter 3 verse 16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. God s Son, Jesus died on a wooden cross so that his blood can cover our sins. If we accept Jesus into our hearts, we can live with Him in Heaven after we die. Seth says thoughtfully: God did that for me? Preacher Man nods: Yes, He did. Seth: Can you tell me more? Hatred: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Time to go! (Hatred drags Seth off stage and exits.) Act V Envy (Seth and Envy is taken by sheriff and thrown into jail. Preacher Man comes and sees Seth behind bars and goes to visit him.) Preacher Man: Seth, how did you end up here? Seth: Envy talked me into stealing. It sounded so nice at the time, but when I stole, I was caught. Preacher Man: You know Seth, if you listened to your parents, you wouldn t be here right now. Seth: I know, and I feel bad about disobeying them. Envy: So what? I think life is ten times better without parents! Preacher Man: You know, Seth, if you want to get out of here, all you have to do is make things right. First, with God, and second with the people you ve hurt. Seth: After all the things I ve said and done? How can I make things right? Preacher Man: Remember the verse John 3:16? Seth nods and quotes the verse: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Preacher Man: You ve been thinking about it than? Seth: Yes. I know God loves me, but why else would He send His Son to die for me? Preacher Man: In Romans 3:23, the Bible says, For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; This means that all the bad things we do keep us from going to Heaven, which is one reason why God sent Jesus to die for us. Seth: What happens when you can t go to Heaven?
Envy: You go to Hell, that s where! Preacher Man: In Revelation 21:8, the Bible says, But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. This verse means that all those who do wrong end up in Hell, a place that burns with the hottest fire. Seth: I don t want to go there. How can I receive Christ into my heart? Preacher Man: In Romans 10:9, the Bible says, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. All you have to do is believe that Jesus died for you and ask Him to come into your heart. Seth: What do I say? Preacher Man: Repeat after me, Lord Jesus, I know I am sinner and that you came to die for me. I ask that you come into my heart and save me from Hell. In Jesus name, amen. (Seth repeats prayer and is saved. The Sheriff comes to unlock the jail doors and sets Seth free.) Envy: Hey, what about me? Someone get me out! Seth shakes Preacher s hand: Thanks so much, Preacher. I m going to tell everyone what Jesus did for me and apologize too. (All exit.)
