I know what you re thinking: how could he afford those tickets??? That, and, remember what was on the sign? John 3:16. In his letter to the churches, John returns to the theme of For God so loved the world to remind a hypocritical church that godly love is not only real, but it must be put into action. April 5 Hang Out (EASTER!) 1 John 21:1-10 Today is the day that Christians (and couch potatoes) celebrate Jesus coming back from the dead. Wahoo! Except that one thing we know about losing someone we love; the longer they re gone, the harder it is to remember them. John remembers a time when he and his friends did just that, until a resurrected Jesus invited them out for breakfast and in doing so, changed not only John, but our lives as well. April 12 Help Out 1 John 4:1-6 Christians should be tolerant. Wives should submit to their husbands, so you have to follow what I tell you! The church is a democracy, so we better start voting on things around here! Who cares who marries who; as long as people love each other, who are we to judge? I was praying about this, and God told me to tell you the carpet should be green. Have you ever wish that there were an easy way to determine what people tell you is really what God wants? There is! Have you ever heard of the Holy Spirit that came after Jesus left? Did you know He can help you out? Then why is it so hard to know which way is the right way? April 19 He s Obvious 1 John 4:7-12 John repeats John 3:16 to the church decades later! In doing so, John is telling the church that there is one way to make God obvious to an unbelieving world: love each other, as God loves us. That s easy! (Except for the whole loving unconditionally part.) What if that s why the world doesn t believe in God; we don t really love like we re supposed to? April 26 Hash Out 1 John 4:13-18 Why do so many people that claim to be Christians live in fear? Does John really say that you can t claim to be a Christian and surround yourself with fear and worry? For those of us who struggle with this, John has a simple (but icky) way to overcome this: hash it out with your past.
