Impact Palmyra is a collaborative effort between the churches of Palmyra, the Caring Cupboard and other community organizations and groups. Begun as a week-long church initiative centered on acting out the love of Jesus through serving others in the community, Impact Palmyra continues to evolve as it seeks to best address the needs present and work toward sustainable community development. This year, The Caring Cupboard and the participating churches will be joining together with Warren & Terry Lewis of Klick-Lewis and Paramount Sports Complex. They will be working to construct two community gardens, one at the corner of N. Forge Rd. and E. Broad St., and the other behind the Paramount Sports Complex. Each garden will consist of raised beds; half of the beds will be set aside to produce fruits and veggies for the Caring Cupboard, and the other half will be leased to community members in need of the space and opportunity to grow produce for themselves. The construction of the gardens will take place May 1 through May 4. Volunteers from partnering churches and from the community who register for a plot will provide the labor. Each evening of this initial week will culminate in a free Community Dinner at a partnering church. PCOB will be hosting one of these community picnics on Saturday, May 4, 6:00-8:00 p.m. You can help this worthy project by: Building and planting the raised garden plots on May 1-4.
