Second Sunday of Advent Old Testament Isaiah 40:1-11 Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13 Epistle 11 Peter 3:8-15a Gospel Mark 1:1-8 December 8, 2013 Get ready! Get ready! The King is coming! There is something within me that I cannot explain. All that I know there is something within. The prophet has a new message. Please listen and you will hear of the new message, The coming of the new born King. 1 Comfort ye, comfort ye my people saith your God. 2 Speak ye comfortable to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardon; for she hath received of the Lord s hand double for all her sins. 3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, prepare ye the way of the Lord, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. 4 Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain. 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it. Isaiah 40:1-5 What a time a glorious time throughout the season of preparation and hopeful waiting, reflection daily on Christ s Advent. His coming on Christmas as a baby from Bethlehem, his coming to each day in word, prayer, and singing, promising to come again at the close of the age. The King is coming, the King is coming. Prepare the way and be filled with Hope, Peace, Joy Love. Dear St. Paulian and Friends, Are you ready to welcome the King in? Are you preparing the way? Are you watching and waiting, hoping and praying that we will all be ready when Jesus returns? We are urged to read our Bibles and to share that good news with others. 27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Hebrews 9:27 17 For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God; and if it first begins at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? 18 And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? 1 Peter 4:17-18 10 But why dost thou judge they brother? Or why dost thou set at nought they brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment, seat of Christ. 11 For it is written. As I live saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then everyone of us shall give account of himself to God. Romans 14:10-12 Amen Amen Amen Members from the Prayer Ministries will be available Sunday mornings after worship service in the Prayer Chapel for anyone who desires prayer for self or others.
