S entence: Heaven and earth will pass away, says the Lord, but my words will not pass away. Mark 13.31 C ollect: Eternal God, through long generations you prepared a way for the coming of your Son, and by your Spirit you still bring light to illumine our paths: renew us in faith and hope that we may welcome Christ to rule our thoughts and claim our love; to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Psalm 25.1-20 In you, O Lord my God, have I put my hope: in you have I trusted, let me not be ashamed, nor let my enemies triumph over me. Let none who wait for you be put to shame: but let those that break faith be confounded and gain nothing. Show me your ways, O Lord: and teach me your paths. Lead me in the ways of your truth, and teach me: for you are the God of my salvation. In you have I hoped all the day long: because of your goodness, O Lord. Call to mind your compassion and your loving-kindness: for they are from of old. Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: but according to your mercy think on me. Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he direct sinners in the way. The meek he will guide in the path of justice: and teach the humble his ways. All the paths of the Lord are faithful and true: for those who keep his covenant and his commandments.
The First Sunday of Advent Sunday 2 December 2018 Year C begins today Jeremiah 33.14-16; Psalm 25.1-10; 1 Thessalonians 3.9-13; Luke 21.25-38 Happy New Year! Today, our new liturgical year that honours the Gospel of Luke begins with Advent, that season of eager, patient, and watchful anticipation. Jeremiah sets the stage with God s promise of a saviour who will rule with justice and righteousness, bringing safety and peace to Jerusalem (and to our world). Embers of hope glow in our hearts as we wait and watch for the signs of His coming. Pray for those who wait in the darkness of illness, want, and need, both physical and spiritual. Pray for the Nippon Sei Ko Kai, the Anglican Church of Japan, giving thanks for the work they do to further God s mission in the world. Lara Food Relief Christmas Hampers It is approaching Christmas again and we have had a request for Christmas Hampers to be distributed to needy families in Lara via The Lara Medical Clinic. Last year the recipients of these hampers were overwhelmed and so grateful for the generosity and joy these hampers brought to their Christmas Celebrations. I also have a few clients who have needed our help throughout this year that I would like to give a hamper to as life has been a real struggle for them. Lara Food Relief is an important part of our Mission and Outreach to our local community and we do need to have the continued support of our Parishioners throughout the year to keep this very necessary service available to those in need. We are very grateful for the continued support of so many of our local organisations and especially to The Bendigo and District Bank whose continued generous financial support is so vital to maintaining a constant supply of food.
