LA BEFANA As legend has it, La Befana is a cranky, old woman who sweeps her home & walkway all day. She is not welcoming to gues, & children do not like her. One night, a light floods her bedroom a bright ar appears in e sky. The next morning, a glorious procession of camels, horses, elephants, & ree kings op at her door to inquire e way to Belehem. Cranky Befana is too busy sweeping to be of help to e kings, so ey travel on. A little boy encourages her to join em, in search of e Baby King who has come to change e world. La Befana decides to follow but fir bakes cookies, cakes, & candies as her gift to e Baby, & sweeps her house clean. La Befana runs to catch e procession & soon tires. The night sky suddenly fills wi angels singing about a night of miracles. She rises to her feet, running & crying out to e angels to help her find her way to Belehem. La Befana miraculously begins running rough e sky. She never found e Baby King but every year on e Fea of e Three Kings, La Befana runs rough e night sky, bringing gifts to children & sweeping eir rooms clean. She does is in hopes at one of e children might be e Baby King of Belehem. The annual Fea della Befana, presented by Amici d Italia & e Tuscan Association of Oregon is next Sunday, January 11, 2015 at 2:30 P.M. in Balera Hall. The fea is open to children aged 3 to 10 years old. La Befana will give gifts to e children as she passes rough on her journey to find e Chri Child.
