This set of worksheets accompanies the blog post When Your Mom Prayers Are Desperate on my website. Before beginning these questions, pray for God to show you areas that need change. Here is a little prayer I often pray for myself: Lord, touch my life in a marvelous way so that I will make time to be with You. Please fill me with Your unspeakable joy and purge anything in my life that steals that joy. Amen 1. What does a good mom look like to you? 2. Do you believe that you are a good mom? Why or why not? 3. What kinds of things have compelled you to seek the Hope of Jesus Christ on behalf of your children? a. b. c. 4. Do you feel like He is ignoring or not hearing your prayers? Why or why not? Pg 1 2017 For personal, non-commercial use only
5. In regards to the things you mentioned in #3, have you felt judged by other moms because of them? Explain below what happened and how you felt. Have you let these judgments stop you from approaching the Throne of Hope? 6. It is so good to get those things out in the open, so to speak. They hurt and they bring death to our momma hearts. Now, I want you to hand all of those things over to Jesus. Bury them at the foot of the Cross and leave them there. Write out a prayer below that reflects this step of faith. I am so glad you decided to let go of those hurt feelings and judgment upon you. Every time you think of those things, just hand them right back to Jesus. 7. What do you think of Jesus response to the desperate mother in Mark 7:27? 8. What do you think of my take on it? Do you think He might be mocking the judgmental Jews? 9. What do you think of the mother s response in verse 28? Do you think she might be a bit sarcastic here? Like maybe she caught on to what Jesus was doing? This is just speculation, my own thoughts and wonderings. I really don t know if that is the way it actually was. But the idea just us something to really think about. 10. Do you feel like answered prayers are only for the perfect Christian mothers? Why or why not? 11. Let s dig into some scripture now. Read the scripture verse below and answer the following questions. This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14 a. Does this passage say anything about being a perfect mother in order to approach God in prayer? b. What are the 2 things that this passage say need to happen in order for God to answer us? i. ii. c. If we ask according to His will - and the salvation and turning away from sin for our children is always His will - AND we believe that He hears us, then we have every confidence that He will answer our prayers. Are you able to start claiming this for your prayer life today? Even if you don t feel like it is true - feelings are extrememly fickle, my friend. Can you start just saying you believe it? When you start saying it, you will eventually find your faith grow and deepen. 12. In Philippians, Paul tells us to pray about everything. This includes our children who are stuck in sin. Below, list the things you are anxious about. Pg 3 2017 For personal, non-commercial use only
13. Read Philippians 4:6 (below) and list the ways in which we are to bring our requests to God. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 a. Not b. In every c. By d. By e. With Does this verse say anything about bringing requests to God only if your children are perfect? 14. Now that you have some truth to hold on to, how are you going to apply it? What action(s) will you take to not let judgment, anxiety or fear hinder you from going boldly to the Throne of Grace? 1. 2. 3. 4. The last page has a prayer sheet for you to write out a prayer for your child(ren). There are 3 sections: one for your prayer, one for scripture verses to pray over them and a seciton to record answers to prayers and/or how you are seeing God working in the situation - this is such a great way to build our faith and it will encourage us to keep praying.
