Crossroads PROCLAIMING THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST IN WORD AND DEED Somerset Church of the Brethren FROM THE PASTOR S DESK Genesis 4:7b Sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it. The time of pastoral transition can be an unsettling time. There are many who feel hurt that yet again pastors they have come to know and love are leaving the community. There are some who I imagine are glad to see us go. This range of emotion can lead to hurt feelings and tension and even anger in the midst. All of these are human emotions and none are in and of themselves bad but there is danger in those waters. We need to listen to the words spoken to Cain by God. Cain was experiencing hurt he was experiencing disappointment and even jealousy. God did not reprimand him for his emotion nor tell him he was wrong. God simply gave Cain a warning. Sin is crouching at your door and it desires to have you. That imagery is not unlike an animal getting ready to pounce it is meant to be scary, it is meant to be a warning. Ephesians 4:6 puts that warning into a clear command for the body of Christ. Be ye angry but sin not Sin can be many things, even angry words spoken with vileness it is sin like that which can destroy a church family. For my final pastoral newsletter I ask simply that you take head of the sin crouching at your door and sin not. Blessings, Pastor Paul INSIDE THIS ISSUE Children s Page Church Picnic Coffee House Open Mic Night Father s Day Craft Outreach FATHERLY GUIDANCE Every man who desires to become a true father should look continually to the Lord, that he might learn of him how to relate to his own children. -Sunday Adelaja STAFF INFORMATION: Kimmy Hixson 445-8853 (office), kimmyscob@hotmail.com Pastor Brandy 445-8853 (office), 814-521-5386 (cell), pastorbrandyscob@hotmail.com Pastor Paul 445-8853 (office), 814-521-5387 (cell), pastorpaulscob@hotmail.com
