(Rain location is Parish Center) ST JOSEPH SCHOOL At St Joseph Catholic Parish School, in addition to our outstanding academics and service projects, we also have a strong athletic program to enrich the student experience. Our athletics include: volleyball, cross country, flag football, basketball, cheerleading, soccer, tennis, and golf. All sports are available for grades 6th-8th. There are some athletic opportunities for grades 3rd-5th as well. The exciting news is that now children in our parish have the opportunity to join an SJS team, too! Currently, we are registering for boys and girls middle school basketball and we invite any parish children interested at that age level to call the school office at 706-543-1621 or email Chris Moore, the SJS Athletic Director, at chris.moore@sjsathens.org. Go, Knights! SHARE THE JOURNEY A CAMPAIGN FOR IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Jesus calls us to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Now, Pope Francis is calling us to share a journey with our neighbors all our neighbors, not only those who live near us, look like us, speak like us or pray like us. Our neighbors include many of the world s most vulnerable people migrants and refugees fleeing war, poverty and persecution; people who seek only basic needs and a path forward. Just like us, they are children of God, deserving of dignity and love. We as a church are answering the Pope s call to encounter and walk with these migrants and refugees in support and solidarity. Pope Francis has launched a two-year global campaign called Share the Journey. Here in the United States, Roman Catholic bishops will kick off the campaign with a Week of Prayer and Action from October 7-15, 2017. To support this two-year campaign as well as the week of prayer and action, a website was created to provide downloadable resources for parishes and schools, including ideas for communication and action. More information is available at https://sharejourney.org. Locally, leaders of faith communities from around the north Georgia area and their congregations will join Archbishop Wilton Gregory and the Catholic faithful for an interfaith community prayer gathering in Clarkston, GA at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday October 11, 2017. Reflection on Last Week s Readings Two words that we use very frequently are the words "yes" and "no." In general, "yes" and "no" are morning words. However, as the day passes, we can be moved to turn a morning "no" into an evening "yes." But the earlier we do this, the better, because the night is coming when no one can work. Lord, grant that the night may not come upon us with our work undone and our promises unkept. St. Joseph Catholic Parish School Our Mission: At St. Joseph Catholic Parish School, we are a family of learners who model Christ in all that we do. We are happy, holy and helpful! SACRAMENTAL INFORMATION Active Parishioner Status The question of parishioner status is important. There are many wonderful privileges in Church membership: In addition to enjoying friendships and belonging to a community, members may receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, Confirmation and Marriage; become certified as sponsors for Sacramental celebrations, like Godparents; be educated in the Catholic Faith through Religious Education programs; and enable positive status be given for those applying to Catholic schools. The Archdiocese of Atlanta defines active parishioners as those registered and worshipping members who contribute of their time, talent and financial resources to support the Parish by the following: become a member by officially registering in the parish actively participate in Mass each week, using their envelope to record attendance supports their Parish financially through tithing (5% to parish, 1% to Archdiocesan Appeal) shares their talent within the church community through volunteering in one of our ministries So you see, by registering, using your envelopes and sharing your time and talent with St. Joseph s, you keep our Parish vibrant and growing. And we in turn, can fulfill our mission to you, by welcoming your children into the faith through baptism, teaching them through our religious education and participation in the sacraments, support your family in times of illness and death, through our Blessing Rites and burials. Attendance: Our offertory envelopes are used to record attendance. Whether you contribute or not, we encourage you to drop your envelope in the collection basket so that we can see that you are faithful in your attendance. This is needed for parish verification for active parishioner rate at SJC, sponsor for baptism or confirmation and other legal documents.
