SERVICE FOR THE LORD S DAY To Our Guests: First Presbyterian is a community of people gathering for worship, fellowship, and service. We are pleased that you are with us today. We trust you will receive warmth, compassion, hope, challenge, and encouragement. Please share your visit with us by signing and completing the Visitor Information in the bulletin, and placing it in the offering plate when passed. To our congregation, if you notice a new face, please take a moment to greet them and welcome them to First Presbyterian. The Third Sunday of Lent March 4, 2018 Prelude Chiming of the Hour Welcome and Announcements Mission Moment The Passing of the Peace Chanson Religioso Young GATHERING TO WORSHIP GOD Choral Introit Our God, to Whom We Turn Fritch/Bach *Call to Worship *Invocation IN PRAISE AND THANKSGIVING *Hymn Help Us Accept Each Other #358 Call to Confession (The water of baptism is poured as we remember our baptism of Christ.) Prayer of Confession Merciful God, how fickle we are; we sin against you without even knowing it. Cleanse us, we pray, of any unknown sin, and save us from willfully ignoring your way. Let your commandments rule and guide us. Forgive us for worshiping anyone or anything except you; keep us faithful. Forgive us for failing to honor all our relationships with those closest to us and those who are distant neighbors. Help us to speak words of blessing and kindness, rather than words that belittle or destroy. Turn us away from violence and selfishness. Forgive us for thinking everything depends on our efforts and power, for you are the God who made us, led us out of slavery, and has brought us into the community of faith. Help us to depend on you alone and to rest in your peace. In Christ s name we pray. Amen. SILENCE Declaration of Forgiveness (In the silence pray for forgiveness of personal sin). *Hymn Open My Eyes That I May See #324

WELCOME TO FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH The flowers in the sanctuary are given to the Glory of God! Our Koinonia Book Club will resume in March! Join us as we read Daring Greatly by Brene Brown. Books are available for $14 in Jenny s office or at your favorite retailer. We ll gather on March 27at 7pm at Bucky Holmes house to reflect on the book. Our church is hosting another Book Fair! This is a great opportunity to stock up on faith-filled books for the children in your life. Stop by the display in the colonnade to see some samples and get an order forms. Contact Jenny with questions. Orders will be returned before Easter. Easter Sunday is April 1. If you would like to purchase a lily plant, in honor or memory of someone the price is $12.50 and the deadline is Friday, March 23. Please use the lily envelope in your bulletin to place your order and then place your envelope in the offering plate or drop it off to Pat in the church office. A very special thank you to John Foushee at Big Bloomers for the donations of flowering plants. The four large containers just outside the sanctuary are now showing Spring colors! We do appreciate John s generosity and the gift of beauty from our Creator. Thanks also to Emily Kelly for transforming the planters. Each Wednesday during Lent, we will gather at 7:00 PM in the chapel for a 30 minute service of prayer, word, and worship. Please join us as we journey to the cross with Jesus. If you have been waiting for that calling to serve the church in a very special way, your time has come. On Monday, March 5th, at 6:00 PM there will be a meeting in the Harper Center to form the Emergency Preparedness Committee. This group will work together to prepare our facility and congregation for medical, fire, weather, and security emergencies. We would like to see a good turnout for this meeting so that the planning can be divided into sub-committees. The church needs your help in making our family safer. We would like to compile a list of members who have medical training or are certified in CPR. This list would be shared with church staff, Elders, and Deacons to become familiar with our members who have experience in the medical field and first response. The intent is to provide the best possible response to medical emergencies. If you are willing to share your medical and first response skills, please email Heather at fpcsecretary11@gmail.com. We will also add this information to your profile in the church database. Youth parents, registration for summer camp trips is now open. Passport Kids (3rd through 5th graders) will be July 2-5, and Passport Camp (6th through 12th graders) will be July 8-13th. Please sign up in the church office. Sunday Worship Bulletins are now published on our church website!
