Order of Worship * Welcome and greetings Frank Hitchings, senior associate pastor * Call to worship based on Psalm 111 Leader: Praise the Lord. I will extol the Lord with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. All: For great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. Leader: He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever holy and awesome is his name. All: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. * Hymn of praise Rejoice in All Your Works (words and music on opposite page) * Prayer of adoration Affirmation of the excellence of scripture Leader: The testimony of the church should move us to a high and reverent esteem for the Holy Scripture. The church, and in particular, the preaching of God s Word, helps us to see the heavenly character of the Bible s content, the efficacy of its doctrine, the majesty of its style, the agreement of all its parts, and the scope of the whole, which is to give all glory to God. All: The testimony of the church also shows us the excellency and perfection of the Word of God and helps us to see how the Bible fully discloses the only way of salvation. please turn page

Rejoice in All Your Works text based on Psalm 104, music by Wendell Kimbrough 2014 Wendell Kimbrough, ARP, UBP, CCLI Lic. #152036

Leader: Nevertheless, our full persuasion and assurance of the Bible s infallible truth and divine authority is from the inward work of the Holy Spirit bearing witness in our hearts. All: T hanks be to God for the gift of his infallible and inerrant Word. based on The Westminster Confession of Faith, 1.5 Call to confession Hebrews 10:19-22 Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hymn of confession (9:30) Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul Dear refuge of my weary soul, on thee when sorrows rise, on thee when waves of trouble roll, my fainting hope relies. To thee I tell each rising grief, for thou alone canst heal. Thy word can bring a sweet relief for every pain I feel. But oh! when gloomy doubts prevail, I fear to call thee mine. The springs of comfort seem to fail, and all my hopes decline. Yet gracious God where shall I flee? Thou are my only trust. And still my soul would cleave to thee though prostrate in the dust. Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat. With humble hope attend thy will, and wait beneath thy feet. Thy mercy seat is open still, here let my soul retreat. With humble hope attend thy will, and wait beneath thy feet. text by Elvina M. Hal, 1865 Silent prayers of confession Assurance of God s pardoning grace Ephesians 2:4-5a, 8 Because of his great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

* Hymn of assurance Here Is Love Here is love vast as the ocean, loving-kindness as a flood, when the Prince of life, our ransom, shed for us his precious blood. Here is love, Lord we remember; from our hearts we lift your praise, raising high the living anthem all will sing through endless days. On the mount of crucifixion fountains opened deep and wide. Through the floodgates of your mercy flowed a vast and gracious tide. Here is love like mighty rivers poured unceasing from above: heaven s peace and perfect justice kissed a guilty world in love. Let me all thy love accepting, love thee, ever all my days; let me seek thy kingdom only, and my life be to thy praise. Thou alone shalt be my glory, nothing in the world I see. Thou has cleansed and sanctified me; thou thyself has set me free. Here is love, Lord we remember; from our hearts we lift your praise, raising high the living anthem all will sing through endless days. text by William Rees, 1802-1883 Worship in the giving of God s tithe and our offerings Offertory hymn Jesus, Lover of My Soul Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly, while the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high: hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm is past; safe into the haven guide, receive my soul at last! Thou, O Christ, art all I want; more than all in thee I find: raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is thy name; I am all unrighteousness; false and full of sin I am, thou art full of truth and grace. Plenteous grace with thee is found, grace to cover all my sin; let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within: thou of life the fountain art, let me take of thee; spring thou up within my heart, to all eternity. text by Charles Wesley, 1740 Sacrament of baptism (11:00) Bekah and Kurtis Montgomery bringing Francis Elaine Lainey Montgomery

* Scripture reading from Deuteronomy 6:1-9 Cy Huffman (9:30) text printed in the bulletin David Paschall (11:00) This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Prayer of preparation for the study of God s Word Sermon Pastoral prayer Saturation in the Scripture, Devotion to the Lord Joe Novenson, pastor of senior adults * Hymn of response Be Thou My Vision * Benediction * Doxology Be thou my vision, O Lord of my heart; naught be all else to me, save that thou art thou my best thought by day or by night, waking or sleeping, thy presence my light. Be thou my wisdom, and thou my true word; I ever with thee and thou with me, Lord; thou my great Father, I thy true son; thou in me dwelling, and I with thee one. Riches I heed not, nor man s empty praise, thou mine inheritance, now and always: thou and thou only, first in my heart, High King of heaven, my treasure thou art. High King of heaven, my victory won, may I reach heaven s joys, O bright heaven s Sun! Heart of my own heart, whatever befall, still be my vision, O Ruler of all. Ancient Irish poem, ca. 8th cent. Praise God from whom all blessings flow; praise him, all creatures here below; praise him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

Deuteronomy 6:1-9 1 These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, 2 so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. 3 Hear, O Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your fathers, promised you. 4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. 5 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. 6 These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. 7 Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. 8 Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. 9 Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.
