V o l u m e 1 6, I s s u e 2 a monthly newsletter of Knightdale Baptist Make It Count Do you not know? Have you not heard? Has it not been told you from the beginning? Have you not understood since the earth was founded? Isaiah 40:21 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? Isaiah 20:26a After nearly 50 years spent in exile, Isaiah had an important question for the people: Have you forgotten God? Imagine being in their place, away from your homeland, outcasts, exiles in a ruling country. Your once tight-knit community of faith now exists in a place where you don t feel you belong. If someone then came along and said to have faith you ll return to your homeland, how would you feel? Isaiah wants his people to remember how great God is. What does it mean to wait? Waiting is typically thought of as an inactive, passive condition. How much, though, is happening while we wait? Think of a spouse waiting for a soldier to return home. This might be active waiting, perusing through photos and letters. Waiting for a light to turn green, you can choose to be patient or impatient. You can t change the circumstances, only accept them. These are opportunities to exercise the patient muscles in our souls. We think of waiting as a trying time, but it can be transformative. Isaiah urged his listeners to trust in God s faithfulness and to have the humility to allow the mystery of God s work to unfold over time. God does indeed invite us to be active participants and partners in his work, but sometimes, he wants us to wait, trusting that he s in the midst of creating something great for us, but that waiting is an active waiting. It isn t sitting on our laurels with no sense of responsibility to the task at hand. These items are in high demand for our neighbors, and they need our HELP! Mission Committee Gospel Concert Series On Saturday, February 2nd, The Harvesters will be here at in the Sanctuary. A love offering will be accepted. A fellowship gathering will follow downstairs in the Fellowship Hall. Please bring a dish to share, and invite your friends and neighbors.

Page 5 the Beam, a monthly Newsletter for Knightdale Baptist February, 2019 Backpack Buddies We are providing meals for 20 children at Knightdale Elementary every weekend. We need your help to fill those bags each week. A grocery list can be found in the vestibule of the Sanctuary. Please remember no glass. The Giving Tree is another way you can help, and the tree is located in the back hallway of the Sanctuary. Here is how it works 1) Take a dollar amount that you are comfortable in contributing weekly OR that you can contribute that week ONLY. 2) Either shop for the items on the back of the apple, or add that dollar amount to your weekly tithe with a note in the memo section that allocates the amount for Backpack Buddies. 3) If you can contribute weekly, just keep the apple as a reminder for your shopping trips or for your additional monetary donation. If this is a ONE time donation, please return the apple to the Giving Tree so that Edith may know what is needed for that week. If you plan on SHOPPING, please drop off your weekly donations in front of the Backpack Buddies office located on the bottom floor downstairs in the Sanctuary building across from the Fellowship Hall Each Bag Needs: 3 Breakfasts: - Cereal bars - Grits - Oatmeal - Small box cereal - Poptarts 2 Lunches: - Ravioli - Spaghetti & meatballs - Beefaroni - Lasagnas - SpaghettiO s - Ramen noodles 3 Suppers: - Canned tuna - Canned chicken - Pork n beans - Packet of peanut butter - Mac n cheese - Soup 3 Veggies/Fruits: - Green beans - Corn - Peas - Potatoes - Fruit 4 Snacks: - Cheese crackers - Peanut butter crackers - Granola bars - Goldfish pack - Puddings - Jello cup - Raisins - Microwave popcorn - Chips - Rice Krispie treats - Fruit snacks (kitchen side, in the back hallway of the Sanctuary) in a box labeled Backpack Buddies, or on the floor at the bottom of the stairwell next to the Conference Room in the Education building. Unshakable Pursuit, based on 1 Corinthians 15:58, is the theme of the 2019 Heck-Jones Offering. The scripture says, "My dear friends, stand firm and don t be shaken.
