Only the hungry search for bread. Only the thirsty look for water. This is a place for those who are hungry and thirsty in spirit. Only those who ache for meaning will pursue it. Only those who yearn for a deeper life will seek it. This is a place for those who ache and yearn for something more. So let us come here today with our hunger and thirst, our unsatisfied longings, our heart-felt yearnings, and let the God of life satisfy our souls. ~ written by Ann Siddall, and posted on the website of the Stillpoint Spirituality Centre. http://www.stillpointsa.org.au/

Sunday, March 24, 2019-11:00 a.m. Third Sunday of Lent Easter Morning, *All Are Invited to Stand in Body or in Spirit The congregation is invited to respond at the bold print PRELUDE Camron Cummings, Organist Quote to reflect on as you prepare your heart for worship Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life? poet Mary Oliver Sunday, April 21st Easter Sunrise Service on the church land next to the CSM Building WELCOME and ANNOUNCEMENTS CALL TO WORSHIP (inspired by Luke 13:6-9) The season of Lent can be barren and lonely, but God goes with us through the wild wilderness. Our lives are lived in seasons of transitions and transformations. Lent is a time to ponder God's providence and persistence. Together, we seek fruitfulness, for it has been promised to us; the barrenness of Lent will give way to the fruitfulness of Easter. In this season of penitence and pondering, let us gather before God. We come, as a family, to wait for the Lord with strength and courage. Come, let us worship God! *HYMN (Blue 65)... Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah....... Few Welsh hymns are as well known or loved as this 18th-century text that did not gain its popular tune until the early 20thcentury. In both its original text and in English translation, it is a stirring hymn of pilgrimage filled with vivid imagery from Hebrew Scripture. CALL TO CONFESSION AND RECONCILIATION Do you think that because you have spoken hurtfully, or failed to help, or left God behind as you travel through each day, that God forgets you? God s love is as constant as the sun; God s forgiveness is as sure as the stars in the night sky. With hope in God s promises, Let us join together, as we confess our sin and seek forgiveness, saying, The Sunrise Service will be followed by breakfast and then the 11:00 am worship service. In the Church Yards Easter Sunday April 21st Following Worship PLEASE BRING YOUR CANDY DONATIONS to church and to the church office! Thank you!

Monday, April 15th Host Church: Union Tabernacle Baptist Church 900 Adderton St. Thursday, April 18th Host Church: Friendship Baptist 411 Cotton Ave. Tuesday, April 16th Host Church: First Presbyterian 125 S. Jackson St. Friday, April 19th Good Friday - Noon Host Church: Calvary Episcopal Church 408 S Lee St Wednesday, April 17th Host Church: Koinonia Farm 1324 GA Highway 49 South PRAYER OF CONFESSION God who Made us and Longs for us, we confess that our own desires have led us astray. We see only what we lack, instead of all the blessings we have. We mistake blessings as possessions and wealth, rather than understanding the blessing of Your love, grace, justice, mercy, and peace in our lives. Forgive us for our misguided ways. Mold our desires to be what You desire for the world, so we might love one another and become the Beloved Community on earth as it is in heaven. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen. ASSURANCE OF PARDON God is our help, our strength, our refuge. The psalms declare we rest under the shadow and shelter of God s wings. There is no place you can go where God will not find you. You each are God s beloved child. Repent; turn back to God, living into God s ways, knowing you are forgiven, loved, and restored. Amen. *RESPONSE TO FORGIVENESS (Blue 579) Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost. As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen. CHILDREN S MESSAGE Every Friday during Lent at 6:30 pm St. Mary s Catholic Church has Stations of the Cross Service Pastor Sommer *PASSING OF THE PEACE The peace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you and also with you Let us share the peace of Christ with our neighbors. *HYMN (Blue 357)... O Master, Let Me Walk with Thee...... In honestly admitting the limits of human ability, this prayerful hymn does not seek a sense of God s presence for self-comfort but for strength and companionship in pursuing the tasks that God sets before us. The author specifically chose this tune to accompany his words.

PRAYER FOR ILLUMINATION SCRIPTURE Isaiah 55: 1-9 Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. 2 Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. 3 Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David. 4 See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples. 5 Surely you will summon nations you know not, and nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor. 6 Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. 9 As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. In Memory Of: Reserve Your Easter Lily In Honor Of: By: You can order your Easter Lily by returning this form during Sunday worship, emailing (office@americuspresbyterian.org) or dropping it off at the church office. Palm Sunday, April 14th One Great Hour of Sharing One Great Hour of Sharing is the single, largest way that Presbyterians come together every year to work for a better world. Join with Presbyterian s worldwide to provide relief from natural and human-caused disasters, food for the hungry, and support for the poor and oppressed. If we all do a little, it adds up to a lot! 1/3 of this offering goes to Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, 1/3 goes to the Presbyterian Hunger Program and 1/3 goes to the Self-Development of People. Look for specially marked OGHS envelopes in the bulletin on Sunday, April 14th. Luke 13: 1-9 13 At that very time there were some present who told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 He asked them, Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were worse sinners than all other Galileans? 3 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. 4 Or those eighteen who were killed when the tower of Siloam fell on them do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish just as they did. 6 Then he told this parable: A man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came looking for fruit on it and found none. 7 So he said to the gardener, See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil? 8 He replied, Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down. This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God! Please give generously! MESSAGE... The Power of Manure.....Pastor Sommer *AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Apostles Creed I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life ever lasting. Amen OFFERTORY *DOXOLOGY (Blue 592)... Praise God, from Whom All Blessings Flow...... Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host. Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen

This African-American spiritual offers a long-delayed answer to the prophet Jeremiah s question, Is there no balm in Gilead? (Jeremiah 8:22).
