New Hope News June 1, 2016 Worship God alone. But if you are willing to obey the Lord, then decide today whom you will obey. A voice of challenge is raised. The challenge is both timeless and timely. The prophet raises truth for his generation and all generations to follow. In a day of uncertainty and anxiety, our response to God s challenge and command becomes all the more important. It is important to each individual It is essential to every family. God had called Joshua to lead his people into a new land. This venture would lead to abundant life for Israel. While centuries have passed, a central truth remains, Then decide whom you will obey. Phillip Hoo, theologian and scholar, framed this central idea in a fresh way, The quality of the life we live will never be greater than the gods whom we have chose to worship. What choices are you making today? What choices will you make tomorrow? All friends and members of NHCC are urged to participate in the educational opportunities provided on Sunday mornings. We have Classes for all adults, children and youth. Following the church school hour our worship service begins at 10:30 A.M. Come and worship! Come and share! Come and break bread with others seeking the Spirit of the living God. His table is open to all who would receive. Watch for details Unless the grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains just a grain of wheat, but if it dies, it produces much fruit. Of all God s creations one of the most astonishing is the seed. Perhaps this past spring we sowed some of them in our gardens or flower beds. As we planted we probably did so with a dull awareness of the miracles involved. It is almost incredible that a tiny plant in miniature form can survive inside the hard, dry shell until something signals it and says, wake up now, come out, and go through it all again. There were some seeds inside a box in the Natural History Museum in London when a fire destroyed part of the building in the early 1940 s. When the box of seeds damaged by the fire and water, was opened. It was discovered that the seeds had germinated and begun to grow, although the seeds had been brought from China to London in 1793 by Sir George Stanton. The seeds were 147 years old! In another experiment at the same museums some seeds came to life after they had been dormant for 237 years. I have read before that when rain fell in death valley that the valley began to bloom like as a rose. Seeds long dormant were still vital and sprang into life when the right conditions triggered their growth. In seeds there is a hidden mysterious potential. The same is true of the seed of faith which God plants in the human heart and life. Who can tell what it may some day produces. A young life, especially, is like a seed, with great possibilities latent within it. One important mission of the Church is for us to nourish seeds of faith in the lives of people. Sometimes nothing will happen, but at other times, when the conditions are right (in God s timing) the possibilities of life new and renewed life spring forth from streams that flow in the desert. The scriptures tell us time and again that if we are faithful to the seeds that we nurture they will produce much fruit. How is your seed planting and nurturing going?
