Transcription:

The year begins with anticipation of and then celebration of Jesus' birth. The season of Epiphany focuses on the life of Christ and the many ways God makes Himself known through many manifestations or epiphanies. Lent is the next season as we walk through forty days of preparing for the suffering and death of Jesus. Then, Easter gives the Christian faith its unique standing: We have a Risen Savior! The season of Easter is followed by Pentecost Weekly Schedule Wednesday, November 21 Church office closes at 12:30 p.m. for Thanksgiving. It is the final Sunday on the Christian calendar for this year. Next Sunday, begins the Advent season, which is the first Sunday of the next liturgical year. ("Liturgical" relates to public worship.) You are no doubt more familiar with the liturgical calendar than you first think.

where we recall the Holy Spirit descending on believers and giving birth to the church. Finally, then follows a five-months long season after Pentecost called "Ordinary Time." The last day in Ordinary Time is Christ the King Sunday. This is a day to focus on Christ's godliness and holiness. We know the truth that Christ is ruling beside God in heaven. We anticipate the consummation of all things when, "at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father" (Philippians 2:10-11). Christ the King Sunday calls us to lift up our heads from the concerns of earth, to remember that which is eternal. Christ is Lord and King! I hope to see you on Sunday!
