Meeting 4th Tuesday-C.A.R.E. Ministry FROM THE PASTOR... As I write this I have been in town for 12 days so far. In a way I feel like Jonah on the ship headed to Tarsus. You remember the storm came and he told the sailors to toss him overboard because he was responsible for all the bad weather. Well you may remember that the first night I was here to meet you all was December 4. That evening it snowed and it has been snowing just about ever since. I promise I didn t intentionally bring the snow, ice and generally nasty weather with me from the mountains! At least, unlike Jonah, I believe I am headed in the right direction. I must say that my wife Angie and I appreciate all of you who have welcomed us to Swift Creek. We are anticipating getting into our new home and getting settled in within the next few weeks. Even more we are looking forward getting to know each of you. On Sundays throughout the rest of January, I will continue the sermon series: A New You in the New Year, and on Wednesday evenings I will continue to lead us as we look closely at the Model Prayer. In God s Grace, David Vess

Page 2 Swift Creek Chronicler Krista s 411 February has arrived and so has pink and red decorations, chocolate candy hearts, flowers, cards, etc. It is the month of love. Valentine's day is just a couple of weeks away. As I thought about what to write, a verse came to mind. Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. A familiar scripture it reminds us not only that we should love each other but also how we should love one another. As I dug deeper into my thought, I looked up the verse that had come to mind. John 13:34 says, So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Wait, Jesus isn't just suggesting we love one another; He is commanding us to! And He is commanding us to love others as He loves us! Doesn't He know that is hard? Doesn't He know that sometimes people hurt us? Doesn't He know that sometimes people don't love us in return? I believe Jesus understands all to well exactly how we feel. I wonder how hard it is for Jesus to love us, how often we hurt Him, and how many times we haven't loved Him in the way He would like? Makes you think, huh? I wondered today how different our earthly relationships would be if we loved as Jesus loves us. The world would be a different place. It would be patient and kind, not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It would not demand its own way. It would not be irritable, and it would keep no record of being wronged. It would not rejoice about in justice but rejoice whenever the truth won out. (Thoughts based on I Cor. 13) May we love this February and throughout the year as Jesus loves us. I believe we will see a difference in the world around us. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance (I Cor. 13:7). Loving you, Krista Correction from the Treasurer The financial report for the cemetery savings account should read NC Baptist Foundation instead of State Employee Credit Union. Swift Creek Baptist Church, Dear Church Family, Thank you for the Christmas love offering I received. I appreciate your thoughtfulness during the holiday season. Serving Swift Creek has been one of my greatest blessings. I am looking forward to what God has in store in the coming year. May God continue to bless the ministry of Swift Creek! With heartfelt thanks & love, Krista McClain & family Thank you so much for the love offering. It warms my heart to know that you think of me during the holidays and appreciate what I do here at SCBC. I am looking forward to the coming year and excited to see what God will do! Thank you, Kim and Woody Sharp Church Family, Thank you for the Christmas Offering. I take pride in being a part of this loving, caring and sharing congregation. You truly are a blessing to so many people. Sincerely, Bobby Mills Dear SCBC Family~ Thank you for the generous Christmas gift. It was a blessing to our family. We re glad we were there to share Christmas Eve with you. We re thankful for the time our Lord allowed us to serve you. You have been a joy to know. May God continue to bless the ministry of SCBC! Happy 2011! Brent, Sabrina, Hannah, Brock, Corinne and Emma Dear Church family, As a child growing up in Swift Creek Baptist church I went with the Children s Choir (led by my Mama) many times to carol and deliver fruit baskets to the shut ins. While I could see the joy in their faces, it was difficult as a child to realize what it really meant to them. Now as an adult, I realize it more than ever. Last Wednesday night the Adult Choir, Children and other members came to share the Christmas Joy with my Mama. As I stood there with mama I saw her joy and realize we had come full circle. You ll never know how much it meant for the church family to come and sign. The bags of Christmas goodies have been enjoyed as well in the days that followed. Mama was so touched and honored that the church remembered her. Thank you for your continued prayers, visits, cards, food and other acts of kindness. Please know how much Mama misses each of you. James and I, too are truly grateful for all the prayers and support you give. May God continue to bless Swift Creek! Harriett Christmas Elder Daughter of Frances Christmas Dear church Family, Thank you all for the love offering and beautiful wooden pen set. It is a blessing to be remembered in such a generous way for my meager contribution to the workings of the church. It has been my pleasure to serve the Lord by volunteering my time and computer skills this past year. I look forward to continuing to serve Him in the new year ahead. God bless you all. Love in Christ, Susan Moore Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for the Christmas Love Offering you gave me. I am so thankful to be a part of such a loving church family. I appreciate your thoughtfulness and generosity so much. May the Lord Bless each and everyone of you. Love and blessings, Marilyn Ferguson
