REGISTRARS 306 Cedar circle Marshall, TX 75672 Tyler Emmaus GRACE Community P.O. Box 132212 Tyler, TX 75713-2212 DEAR G.R.A.C.E. A NE FROM YOUR COMMUNITY LAY DIRECTOR Happy New Year and greetings! My name is. I went on Grace Emmaus Walk #58 in October 2011 at Camp Gilmont outside of Gilmer, Texas. I sat at the Table of St. John. My wife Debra and I worship and serve at Ore City First United Methodist in downtown Ore City, TX. I am privileged, honored and humbled to have been chosen to serve as the G.R.A.C.E. Community Lay Director for this New Year of 2015. The New Year for G.R.A.C.E. is a time for thanking board members who have served us faithfully: Cindy Hooser, Pat Moser, Carol DeRieux, and David McPherson served with God s grace over the last 3-4 years. We can t say enough thanks. We wish them well and look forward to their continued, active participation in our community. I join with you in welcoming our new G.R.A.C.E. board members for 2015. Dan Matthews, who has served in the past, will be a welcome experienced voice on the board. David Bagley, who took his walk in the Fall of 2013 has immersed himself with Emmaus enthusiasm and is serving wherever and whenever asked. Talia Epps, whom I hold the highest regard for as she truly gets the Emmaus giving experience! Jerri Lykins, not only a musical treasure, but when asked about being on the board she immediately said she was singing Where He leads me, I will follow Brett Walker, what can you say about Brett Ok you now see my humor if you haven t met me yet. Seriously, Brett wants to serve and give back to the community he feels brought something more to his life As your CLD for 2015, I was thinking of what our community goals are for the ensuing year. 1. Making sure our walks are FULLFILLING for our Pilgrims; not just that Walks are Full. What do I mean? I think in my heart I know how I came off my walk and am so enthusiastic about putting everyone I know on a walk. But I have learned not to push too much as it is not about jamming it down someone s throat It s about planting a seed and living in my walk with Christ and hoping someone sees that and says I want to know what changed ol Mark. Good sponsorship and personal reunion group participation are important in getting the right pilgrims to a walk and keeping them active in their journey. It s easy for some to pay the money and drive em to the walk and consider that to be sponsorship. I think that is awesome and never want to discourage that participation but I want sponsors to get them back to Babe Chick and make sure they are active Fourth Dayers! If we get them to those events as well, it will add to their spiritual life as well as add to their home church life. Also I like the way a former CLD said it in his opening newsletter in 2010: If everyone sponsored one pilgrim a year we would have them stacked up for walks. I m paraphrasing but what I love is the goal let s get that one pilgrim and make sure it s a commitment to get them to not only the walk but to as many community events as possible. 2. Have Fun! The business of the board is just that business to handle the Lord s business on earth through the Emmaus Movement. This is not the

De Colores business of deciding whether or not we want walks to go as we see fit and how close to the exact model we hope they are. It is the business of trusting in God and following that inner compass God has given us to make sure we follow the Upper Room s guidelines for the walks. But, know that God does not always go by the book, and that people are people. Our commission is to move more non-religious or nominally religious people to a walk with Christ. There is no pat rule for doing this. Just PRAY, follow God s instruction, and I m sorry to say get out of your comfort zone and do the work. Remember Changing our World??? No one said it would be easy, but they did say IT WOULD BE WORTH IT! This is where the start of this goal fits in Changing our world can be and should be fun! Let us handle the business but have a great time doing so. Fun is the only way I like to handle business. Your wonderful offerings will be such a blessing to each man and woman who attends. Options for delivery include sending with a Team Member to one of the final Team Meetings; bring to the February Gathering at Payne Springs or send/bring on Thursday night of Walk for sendoff. Heck, if all else fails, just give me a call and I will meet you (not at 2 in the morning) and take your gifts off your hands (insert smile here). We appreciate all you do and thank you very kindly for all your hard work. Agape Dinner The Agape Dinner or Christ Meal provides a special opportunity to come alongside the Pilgrims and share in the Emmaus Weekend experience. If you are interested in serving as an Escort at either the Men's Walk or Women's Walk in March, please email or text me and I will forward instructions and get your name on the list. No experience? No problem! We will show you the ropes before turning you loose. The more the merrier. this process goes much smoother with many helpers so please do not hesitate to join in on this precious time in the life of His Pilgrims. Many thanks, Agape Board Rep bcarroll259@yahoo.com (903) 424-1641 Don t forget that we welcome any news articles from the community. Please submit them by the first of each month for publication in the upcoming newsletter. johnston_karol@yahoo.com But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength Emails from G.R.A.C.E. For many years G.R.A.C.E. had a group email list that was used to update the community members on events and news. When we transferred to the new website (www.graceemmaus.com) earlier this year, we were unable to keep this list. As a result, the group email list was re-created from records extracted from the community registrar's database. We want to make sure that we are only emailing community members that wish to be included in news and events. If you were not receiving emails prior to this transition and/or you would like to be removed from the new mailing list please let us know. It is never our intent to unnecessarily fill your inboxes. We understand how frustrating that can be. Please know that no one will think negatively of you for needing to be removed. We completely understand.

We also want to make sure that we are including everyone who wants to be on the email list. If you know someone in the community who is not receiving emails from us and wants to be included please have them go to www.graceemmaus.com, select the "Contact Info" tab and add their name and contact information including email address. Another option is to write us at gracecommunityemmaus@gmail.co m. Also please remember to let us know if your email address changes and we will update it in our records. Thank you so much for your patience and understanding as we work to keep this list current and accurate. Peace and greetings to all. Walk season has begun, and the hunt for spring pilgrims is now on. Applications are coming in slowly at this time, so there are many openings available for both walks. As a reminder, if you and your pilgrim complete and submit the electronic application, this must be followed up with at least the nonrefundable $50.00 deposit. It is the application and deposit together that actually hold a place for your pilgrim on the walk. As always, pray earnestly about being a sponsor and what your total role in that capacity is. Please follow the Upper Room Emmaus guidelines, as outlined in the Sponsorship pamphlet, that a pilgrim needs to be active in their local church and ready for the next level upward on their journey with Christ. If you need one of the $5.00 pamphlets, they will be available at the February gathering to be held in Payne Springs on Feb 28th. This could be a good

addition to your local 4 th Day group or reunion group resources. Thanks and De Colores Jim Registration This article is N YOUR NORMAL input. This article is one of seeking help from someone in the GRACE community. That help is in the form of having someone step up and take over as the GRACE community registrar. Betty and I will be filling this position through the fall 2015 walks, but plan on stepping out of the role after that. This means that a new registrar needs to be in place by the end of this year in order to prepare for the 2016 spring walks. When we decided to take on this function, we saw it as an opportunity, for us together, to not only serve the community, but also, through interaction with the GRACE Board, to learn more about how the community works. The position has had its share of both fun and challenges, as any job with rewards will have. We ask that you pray about this opportunity. If you feel so led, please contact, Community Lay Director, or Karol Johnston, Assistant Community Lay Director, to be considered for the position. Betty and I will be glad to talk with, and try to answer any questions of, those who are interested. Thanks and De Colores, Jim and Betty Buchanan GRACE Registrars Do you want to work on a Walk? Go to the website and apply NOW. There are places for service on the outside team as well as conference room teams for the fall walks. REUNION GROUPS!! The board is trying to update our list of current reunion groups. Please go to the website graceemmaus.com and make sure the information on the list is correct. For further information and to make changes, please contact: Tommy Ferguson tloys@hotmail.com Cell: 903-256-7296 BOOK TABLE FOR WALKS Please take time to look through your home libraries to see if you have some nearly new or gently used books that can be donated to the community to be used for the pilgrims on the walks. Remember the book tables on your walk? Other pilgrims donated so that you could have free books to meet your needs. Dan Matthews danmatt4497@hughes.net 903-948-9039 Disciple Crossing Walks for Spring of 2015 will be held: Men: March 12-15 Burton Love Women: March 19-22 FALL WALK DATES: Men s Walk October 1-4 Mike Johnston Women s Walk October 8-11 A Prayer Vigil is a way of reminding all of us that only God transforms lives. I encourage you to go to www.graceemmaus.com and click on Prayer Vigil to sign up for a time slot. It s a great way to support our upcoming pilgrims and the teams working the walks this year. I'm honored to serve as a new board member for GRACE community. Thanks Everyone. Talia Epps Did you know there are opportunities to pray for other Emmaus walks in the USA? Check and pray for them as well. MONTHLY GATHERINGS Would your church like to host a gathering this year? The community gathers each month (except months of walks) to share a meal and praise and worship. Each church can determine the time and meal option. Please pray about this and contact the following board member if your reunion group can host a gathering.
