Gum Spring, VA 23065 On the web at: www.oakland-baptist.com Office: 804-556-3550 From The Pastor s Pen-- November 2013 Blessed beyond belief are words that you may have heard me utter in recent days and weeks as I continue to be amazed in how God works. For truly, He is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us. (Eph. 3:20). To know that you are blessed, you must look around. If for some reason you have been unable to see the activity around Oakland during the past month or so, then you have missed something special. I would love to know how many hours were invested in our Consignment Ministry Sale and our Fall Festival. You may have not been able to attend either of these events, but I assume that you prayed for them. Thankfully your prayers were answered! Both of these events allowed us to create atmosphere s where conversation were easy as we served others in the name of Jesus. It was our 15th year of Consignment and 33rd year of the Harvest Festival... and it was good. Thank you teams members for your dedication and commitment. I looked recently into the eyes of one our men and saw the tears of unexplainable joy, as he experienced the confirmation of God s leadership through a phone call from a long-time friend. Rev, we prayed for wisdom and discernment, and when my friend called, I knew immediately that God was doing what I thought He was leading me in! I saw uncontainable joy in the life of a spouse as she shared with me the growth that her husband has made in recently years, even to the point of praying in public... with fear and trepidation! I look around and see many who appear to ungrateful for their blessings... There are some who are self-made and don t feel necessary to thank anyone, much less God, for their achievements. Others seem to have lost their simple manners, like, thank you, ma am or sir. What is our country coming to? There are times that I feel like God has turned His head away from us... but let me tell you, I want to be like the one out of ten lepers who gave thanks for his healing... I look down and realized that I m different today than before my encounter with Jesus... Let s look around, then cock our heads back and rejoice saying, Thank you Jesus for all you ve done!!! Rev. Her geography varies from Pacific coastal plains to the peaks of the Andes Mountains to tropical forests of the Amazon. Missionaries and their national partners, with help from United States churches, are reaching urban dwellers and indigenous villagers alike with the ultimate goal of Peruvians reaching the nations! Join us on November 20 for our International Mission Study to learn more about Peru and how we can pray for the people and our IMB Missionaries. We will serve a Peruvian dinner at 6 pm and the study will follow at 7 pm.
