ORDER OF WORSHIP APRIL 8, 2018 Prelude "Le Tic Toc" Francois Couperin Neill Campbell, organist Welcome to The Peoples Church! Rev. Betsy Aho Worship is both personal and communal, formal and informal, intimate and casual. Here at The Peoples Church, we recognize that people come to worship God in both joy and pain, faith and doubt, with laughter and with tears. Our worship tries to reflect a desire both for meditation and celebration. Please know you are invited to participate in any and all ways you feel led. Our songs, prayers, words and actions are the works of imperfect people trying to worship a perfect God. Call to Worship Alleluia! Christ is risen! People: Christ is risen indeed! Alleluia! We have not seen the risen Christ, People: But we see him in the lives of those transformed by grace. We have not seen Jesus face-to-face, Christine James People: But we have seen him in the faces of everyone whose love encourages us. We have not touched the wounds from the cross, People: But we have been called to bring healing to the wounded of the world. Christ is risen! Now what? People: Now we come together to wait for him. May the risen Christ bless us as we worship what we have not seen, yet believe. Procession of the Light of Christ Piper Williams and Anna Harvey, Acolytes Gathering Hymn "Alleluia! Sing to Jesus" No. 260

Prayer of Confession Loving Jesus, you call us to be people of faith, yet we are often people with doubts. We doubt that love can grow again in relationships where anger and bitterness reign supreme. Help us to love faithfully. We doubt that peace can come where hatred and violence reign supreme. Help us to be faithful peacemakers. We doubt that there can be enough in places where despair and famine reign supreme. Help us to be faithful givers. You specialize in impossibilities you walk on water, you heal nations, you forgive sins, you set the captive free. Set us free from our doubt and help us respond to you in faith. Amen. Congregational Response "Spirit of the Living God" No. 288 Celebration of Holy Communion (8:30 a.m.) Children's Moment (10:30 a.m.) Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me (repeat) Melt me; mold me; fill me; use me. Spirit of the living God, fall afresh on me. Passing the Peace of Christ (Please stand if able) (Children are dismissed at this time and can be picked up after service on the third floor) The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. First Reading Psalm 145: 13-22 (Pew Bible Page 625; Large Print 926) Anthem "My Master From a Garden Rose" Eleanor Daley Sanctuary Choir, directed by Dr. Jonathan Reed Second Reading John 20:19-31 (Pew Bible Page 1,088; Large Print 1,652) Sermon "Peace Be With You and You and You..." Rev. Betsy Aho @Connect2TPC#TPCSermon Hymn of Response "Breathe on Me, Breath of God" No. 286

Prayers of the People & The Lord's Prayer (During the pastoral prayer there will be a time to offer prayers of joy and concern, voiced aloud or silently for and on behalf of others) Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen. Thanksgiving and Dedication of Gifts Offertory Prayer of Christ Ascending" Olivier Messiaen Act of Praise Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Dedication O Mighty One, you have done great things for us, and holy is your name. Bless all we offer you ourselves, our time, and our possessions that through us your grace and favor may be made known to all the world, for the sake of Jesus Christ, the Risen One. Amen. Closing Hymn "We Walk by Faith and Not by Sight" No. 817 Benediction (Please stand if able) Benediction Response Go now in peace. Never be afraid. God will go with you each hour of every day. Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true. Know God will guide you in all you do. Go now in love, and show you believe. Reach out to others so all the world can see. God will be there watching from above. Go now in peace, in faith, and in love. Postlude "Antiphon" R. Vaughn Williams Today s Floral Offering Given in memory of Paula Telder in celebration of her birthday, by Dee Przybylski and family.
