Stukey CEMETERY ADAIR COUNTY, MISSOURI This cemetery brought to you by Gail The Stukey Cemetery is reached by taking Highway 63 south from Kirksville to the Airport Road, thence west for one mile. The Noah Stukey family settled the land where the cemetery is located in 1840 or 1841. Noah Stukey was a judge of the County Court in very early days. One acre was donated by his family for the cemetery. The earliest grave appears to be 1845. For several generations families staked out their own plots. Maintenance was done over the years; periodically, by individuals and small groups, and sometimes the cemetery became weed and brush choked. About 15 years ago Dr. Grove Stukey, grandson of the original owner, called meetings, helped raise money for an endowment, and worked to have the cemetery incorporated to assure perpetual care. Dr. Stukey died in October 1980 at the age of 93. This information was furnished by Dr. Grover Stukey, nephew of the Dr. Grover Stukey mentioned above. Acton Elizabeth J. 8-22-1784 to?-26, 1877?
