sacrament of holy baptism Renewal of Baptismal Vows Parents respond in bold italics. Congregation responds with words printed in bold type. introduction Rev. Robert English Brothers and Sisters in Christ, from the beginning of Christianity, baptism has been seen as our entrance into the family of faith. We believe baptism is an outward and visible sign of the grace of Jesus Christ. It is through this grace that we enter into a special relationship with Christ and are inheritors of the promise of eternal life. Those who receive this sacrament are marked as disciples of Jesus and are part of the fellowship of the universal Christian church. PResentation Michael Lamb, Lay Leader I am pleased to introduce Ka r e n Su e Le w i s for baptism, and Su s a n Je a n Dav i s for Baptismal Renewal. Karen & Susan Rev. Patricia Farris Do you believe in God the source, the fountain of life; and in Christ, the offspring of God, embodied in Jesus of Nazareth and in the church; and in the liberating Spirit of God, the wellspring of new life? I do. Rev. English On behalf of the whole church, I ask you: Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you of new life in Christ, resisting evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? I do. Rev. Farris According to the grace given to you, will you remain a faithful member of Christ s holy church and serve as Christ s representative in the world? I will. over

(To the Congregation) Do you, as Christ s body, the church, reaffirm both your rejection of sin and your commitment to Christ? We do. Michael Lamb Will you nurture one another in the Christian faith and life and include these persons now before you in your care? With God s help we will proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ. We will surround you with a community of love and forgiveness, that you may grow in your trust of God, and be found faithful in your service to others. We will pray for you, that you may be true disciples who walk in the way that leads to life. Baptism Rev. Farris Ka r e n, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Su s a n, Remember your baptism and find new life in Christ. Amen. Ka r e n a n d Su s a n, May the Holy Spirit work within you, that having been born through water and the Spirit, you may live as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ. Amen.

The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. choral response We Offer Our Gifts & Ourselves Your generous gifts support the ministries and outreach of the church. You may place gifts of cash or checks made out to First UMC in the offering plates as they are passed. You may also place your Let's Connect/Let Us Pray card in the offering plate. Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory. *Response #95 UMH The Doxology *unison Prayer of Dedication Rev. English O God, if we had a donkey to lend Jesus, we would do so. If we could ease his way to Calvary, or prevent its cruelty, we would act. But these are not ours to give. So we offer what we have: the offerings we have brought for your blessing and all the riches we retain for ourselves. Use everything we are and everything we have to advance Christ s reign among us. Amen. *hymn #278 UMH - Hosanna, Loud Hosanna *BenedictION *Benediction response We go forth to serve Postlude Fugue in C minor (J. S.
