2103B The Bible Women s Project Eastern Nazarene College Theater Program The Bible Women s Project is a live theatrical performance exploring the women of the Old and New Testaments as seen through the eyes of female students. Note: Performance will be 90-minutes, followed by an opportunity for audience feedback and dialogue. 2104A FAQs on Sexual Identity and Orientation Mark Yarhouse What causes homosexuality? and Can sexual orientation change? are two of the most frequently-asked questions about sexual identity and orientation. Review some of the research in this area and examine an approach to the topic that may be more helpful from a ministry perspective. Note: A general church study committee has been commissioned by the BGS to address these important issues for the Church of the Nazarene. Their work is still in progress; recommendations will be presented to the General Assembly in 2021. This workshop will in no way supplant or preempt the work of that study committee but will instead offer research into statistics and trends that will support the eventual conclusions of our commissioned committee. 2104B Tell the Story as an Evangelistic Tool Candice Brooks Tell THE Story is a powerful ministry methodology that brings scripture to life in the mind of the participant. In this workshop, each participant will experience the power of Tell THE Story and learn how it can be used to unleash the power of the gospel. 96 / 96 M19 conference

2105 Theological Administration ** Jeren Rowell When pastors do their work well, the value of that ministry goes much deeper than services rendered to a people. Come explore how it is possible to conduct the work of congregational administration in ways that lay first on the foundation of a pastoral theology that provides the truest kind of leadership for the church. 2201 Religion on the Deckplates Erik Lee Each U.S. Navy chaplain is charged to evangelize in accordance with his/her faith group. If you can do it on steel decks of Navy warships, you can do it on the streets of your neighborhood! This workshop wrestles with the call to evangelistic ministry, no matter where your mission field might be! 2202 Called Together ** Dean Blevins, Larry R. Morris God has called both laity and clergy to their mutual ministry through the Church. Yet, a consumerist culture and professional mindset have tended to obscure the vocational role of laity in God s ministry. In the face of shrinking economic resources and changing patterns in church attendance, pastors face the challenging task of reconnecting laity to their commitment to Christ s Church and God s mission. Explore principles and practical ideas to both energize and empower laity in their calling and commitment to God through the church and into the communities where they live. 2203 Evangelism & Ministry in Rural America Dwayne Mills How does the church connect to broken people in our rural parts of North America? How has one church made an impact? 2204 P&B-Provided Benefits Don Walter The Church of the Nazarene provides eligible Nazarene ministers with valuable benefits, such as group term life and disability insurance and contributions to their 403(b) retirement accounts. Now more than ever, the local church must lead their community in living out Christ s calling to welcome the stranger. Recognizing that hospitality is the first step in evangelism, come explore the challenges immigrants and refugees face and gather practical ways the local church can extend radical hospitality to its new neighbors. 2208 Social Media the Digital Frontier or the Digital Front Door? ** Ian Weston Knock, knock... who s there? Your attention, hopefully! Among many roles, you are communicators. You want to make Christlike disciples in all the world. With rapidly changing methods of communication, how do you connect with someone who won t answer their front door? Let s try knocking on their digital front door. 2209 When Mental Illness Comes Home: Family Stages of Recovery Kiersten Adkins When someone is diagnosed with a mental illness, it has an affect on the whole family. We ll discuss ways to discover and develop new opportunities to reach those who are far from God. 2214 Tools for Holding Crucial Conversations Stan Reeder Overview useful tools for tough conversations when opinions differ, stakes are high, and emotions are strong. 2215 Presence AND Proclamation: The Perfect Storm of Effective Evangelism ** Scott Sherwood The current conversation among Wesleyan scholars and church leaders may lead one to believe there are only two groups of people in the church: 1) those criticizing the evangelism approaches of others while doing none of it themselves, and 2) those doing it wrong. Is anybody getting it right? Come learn the story of the most evangelistic Nazarene churches in USA/Canada, examined in light of John Wesley s own evangelistic methods and teachings. Also offered Wednesday at 3:30 pm. the gospel unleashed / 99

3501A From Idle to Ideal Leadership in the Local Church Don Ballard The local church moves forward or retreats based on the level of leadership provided. Ideally, a pastoral team and local board work together in caring for the business of the church and providing effective ministries in the church and community. The structure and the working plan for a board should be simple and clear and adopted, put into action, and nurtured if both business and ministry are to be effective. How pastors view their board and how board members view their leadership make all the difference in how a church is able to carry out the vision that God has given. 3501B The Four E s of Preteens Kyle Tyler Preteens require a unique approach to help them stay connected, be challenged, and transition well to the youth group. Let s talk about ways to invest in the leadership abilities of preteens, how we can set them up for success, and how to keep them excited about coming to church. 3501C Prayer for the Nations: The Power of Corporate Prayer and Cross-Cultural/ Multi-Ethnic Ministry ** Corey Jones God s heart is for the nations. In Psalm 2, we are told to pray, asking the Lord for the nations. In fact, according to Jesus, God s house is intended to be a house of prayer for all nations. This session will focus on the inextricable connection between corporate prayer, cross-cultural evangelism, and multiethnic outreach. In the Scriptures, there is a direct correlation between the prayers of God s people and the saving activity of the Spirit in advancing the kingdom of God among the nations. Also offered Wednesday at 2:00 pm. 3501D Untethered, Dislocated, and Disestablished: Cultivating Missional Imagination (Session 2 of 4) ** Daron Brown, Jeff Stark Explore the 10 characteristics that can help fuel the missional imagination of the people of God. In this time of great change in the West, the Church doesn t suffer from a lack of opportunity but from a lack of missional imagination. Join the conversation about reclaiming the story, compelling eschatology, holistic ministry, incarnational living, changing the scorecard, and more! 100 / 100 M19 conference

3501E Civil Discourse: How Do We Talk About the Things We Can t Talk About? Rick Power, Kathy Mowry, JP VanDalsem In a politically and ideologically polarized environment, how do Christians communicate with each other when the subject is potentially divisive? Explore ways to engage in open and respectful dialogue that aims not necessarily at agreement but at deeper understanding and faithfulness to the compassion of Christ. Also offered Tuesday at 11:00 am. 3501F Ministry to Divorced and Blended Families Leon Blanchette, Ryan Lutz One harsh reality of our culture is that divorce is everywhere we look. We can ignore it or we can be intentional about ways that we serve these families. Discuss some of the issues that divorced and blended families encounter and ways that the church can come alongside and support them. Special attention will be given to meeting the needs of children in these families. 3501G Church in Mission Ron Benefiel, Mark A. Maddix Develop a theology of mission built on a Wesleyan ecclesiology for the church today, with particular attention given to helping pastors and church leaders engage in God s mission in a diverse, post-christian, and postmodern world. 3501H Communal Worship that Unleashes the Gospel in Our Living ** Olivia Metcalf, Brent Peterson How does worship participate in justice and service in the world? How does worship also shape how we engage in issues of compassion, justice, and mercy in the world? How does living lives of service lead to the gospel breaking forth not just in words, but also in deeds? the gospel unleashed / 101
