Peace Lutheran Church Reformation Day October 30, 2016 AS WE GATHER Welcome to Peace Lutheran Church a special welcome to our guests! Please take some time during worship to fill out the attendance/prayer card, located at the end of each pew. If you are a guest, we would love to receive contact information so we can respond to your visit with us today. WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS INVOCATION P: In the name of the Father, and of the + Son and of the Holy Spirit. C: Amen. PREPARATION GATHERING MUSIC He Is Exalted Twila Paris Shout to the North and the South Martin Smith CONFESSION and FORGIVENESS ALL: Heavenly Father, strengthen us in our times of doubting and weakness. Forgive us for all of the times we ve sinned against You and others by the things we have done and not done. We leave all this at the foot of the cross of Your Son, Jesus. Silent Reflection P: Listen to this good news; your sins have been forgiven. As forgiven people we are God s people, the sheep of His pasture. Therefore enter His gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise; give thanks and praise to His name. For the LORD is good and His love endures forever. ALL: Amen. SHARING of PEACE 1

SONG of PRAISE You Never Let Go Matt Redman & Beth Redman (As we sing the song of praise, please pass your attendance / prayer card to the ushers. If you are a firsttime guest, please provide your contact information so that we can respond to your visit this week.) SERVICE OF THE WORD SCRIPTURE READINGS First Reading: Revelation 14:6-7 Page 593 (LP: 937) Epistle Reading: Romans 3:19-28 Page 1167 (LP: 1834) Gospel Reading: John 8:31-36 Page 1060 (LP: 1663) MESSAGE SONG A Mighty Fortress Is Our God Martin Luther MESSAGE It Still Matters THE CONFESSION OF OUR FAITH Pastor: Let us acknowledge our faith by the words of the Nicene Creed People: I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He suffered and was buried. And the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures and ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He will come again with glory to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom will have no end. And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spoke by the prophets. And I believe in one holy Christian and apostolic Church, I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen. 2

SONG of RESPONSE / OFFERING We Are an Offering Dwight Liles (In response to His gracious, daily provision, as an act of adoration and praise, we joyfully give back a portion of what our Lord has entrusted to us. If you are a first time guest please do not feel obligated to contribute but you may do so as the Holy Spirit leads. May God bless every sacrifice we bring!) SERVICE of the SACRAMENT Regarding the Lord s Supper Peace Lutheran Church and the other congregations of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod share the Scriptural belief that the Lord s Supper is a sacramental meal that brings us not only Christ s true Body and Blood with the bread and wine, but also the forgiveness of sins and strength to amend our lives. Those intending to commune with us may find it spiritually helpful to consider these questions: 1. Am I sorry for my sins? 2. Do I believe in Jesus Christ as my Savior? 3. Do I believe He makes His Body and Blood present in this Meal? 4. Am I determined, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to change my sinful life? WORDS of INSTITUTION DISTRIBUTION (For the distribution, the ushers will guide worshippers to the front. The pastor will offer a brief blessing for each table. A longer blessing for all communicants will be spoken after all have received communion.)
