Rev. Steve Byers, slbyers@tbcraleigh.com What a spectacular day of worship and music at Trinity this past Sunday! Our Sanctuary Choir, accompanists, and Cantata Children s Choir all did a fantastic job presenting The Silence and the Sound as our annual Christmas cantata. Our narrators, Libby Mitchiner and David Lee, were outstanding story-tellers and leaders for our music selection this year. It is such a joy to lead these musicians as well as the church at large in worshipful moments in our journey together. Combining so many people in musical presentations is one of my favorite things to do because I get to see our church at work and the musical leadership refine it s offerings to God through worship. Thank you to all of you who made this year s cantata possible. s s s Thank you, church, for the beautiful watch and gift of money as I celebrate 10 years as your Associate Pastor for Worship and Music. It is really hard to believe that 10 years have already gone by; many people before me have told me that the years go by quickly as we age. I never really believed it until now. These years of ministry with you have been so life-changing and uplifting to me as a minister. I can see God s handiwork in numerous ways as He uses you to share the good news of Christ here at home and far away. My prayer is that in all things we do together musically is that we first glorify our Lord and Savior for what He has done for us, and secondly, grow our faith stronger as we continue to serve in His name. Our work today influences the church of tomorrow; I am extremely grateful that God has placed me here to share life together with you and to build His kingdom one by one. Thank you for the love and grace you ve shown me and to my family through these years of service. www.lifehonestly.com Christian Davis, cdavis@tbcraleigh.com Returns January 7 6:00pm Underground The life of a youth volunteer can be hectic! The weeks seem to fly by and there is rarely an opportunity to pause and reflect upon the ministry that you are building up. Refuel is designed to be a much needed moment to pause, reflect, hit the reset, ask questions, and reengage! The highlight of this event will be a Youth Ministry Panel led by experienced Youth Ministers and Volunteers from various churches in NC. All D-Team Leaders, Sunday School Teachers, and SMAC members should be on the look out for more information! Middle School and High School Students Ski Trip January 19-21 Registration Deadline: January 7 I know it is tough to look past this Christmas season and all the excitement that comes with it. However, I wanted to remind everyone that on January 19-21st we will be having our Youth Ski Retreat! This retreat is open to both High School Students and Middle School Students and the cost is $240 per student*. The Registration Deadline is January 7th. *Price is cheaper if tubing ($180) or if neither skiing, snowboarding, nor tubing ($150). We do have church members that contribute scholarships to allow students to participate in trips. Therefore, if there is need, please do not hesitate to ask about financial assistance for the ski trip. Skiing/Snowboarding/Tubing: We will spend the majority of the day on Saturday, Jan 20th out on the slopes at Winterplace Ski Resort. Students have the opportunity to ski, snowboard, or tube. If they have never skied or snowboarded before free lessons will be offered. If students would like to participate in the trip, but do not want to ski, snowboard, or tube, we will have games and chaperones in the lodge the entire day. Lodging: We will stay in 3 Manor houses that are side by side. The floors of each house will be divided by Grade and Gender. There will be NO Middle School Students sharing rooms with High School students and NO floors with different genders on the same floor. Leadership: In addition to our adult chaperones, we will also have several College Students that will help lead our trip. They will lead our times of worship, small group Bible studies, supervision on the slopes, and some cooking as well! Transportation: We will meet at the church at 3:30pm on Friday, January 19th to head up to West Virginia. If you are unable to meet at that time and would need to ride on the late bus, (will leave later that night) please let us know ASAP! We plan to return to TBC around 4pm on Sunday, January 21st. While ski trips are packed with fun on the slopes, we also want to ensure that the weekend is a time of spiritual and relational growth for our students; one that they won t want to miss! So, please do not hesitate to ask any questions in preparation. You can contact me via call/text: 910.612.6547 or email: cdavis@tbcraleigh.com

Rev. Karen Metcalf Eickhoff, kmetcalf@tbcraleigh.com Advent for Families This is Christmas week. A week of anticipation, hope, peace and joy all wrapped up in the Love that came down at Christmas. A new poster representing the Christmas story is in the grade school hallway. Gifts and nativities are in Sunday School classrooms. The remnants of Christmas activities fill the air. Yet, it is still and quiet at times as I walk through the halls of church. I am grateful for the love and laughter expressed in smiling faces and kind words during the season. Thank you for being church for me. Thank you for shining the light of Christ within our community and world. Here is my prayer for you dear church. May God s face shine upon you. May God s hope bring you wholeness. And may you walk this day towards the light of a small star. Carry the hope of Christmas into the New Year. Continue to carry the light and share the love of a baby born in Bethlehem. Let us rejoice and serve faithfully! TBC FAMILY Christmas Tree We would love more ornaments from you and your family. All you have to do is find an ornament relating to the Nativity, write your family name on it with the current year 2017 and bring it to the tree in the FH. If you cannot make it to the FH, bring it to the office and we will get it to the tree. Be a part of a wonderful TBC tradition and bring a Family ornament for the tree! New YEAR January 3 No Wednesday activities for children: Church-wide Committee Night January 10 Wednesday Activities Resume GA and RA Classes resume on January 10 Solo Mission Projects GA and RA boys and girls may begin this Fall to work on Mission Projects. Katie Medlin, kmedlin@tbcraleigh.com It is hard to believe that Christmas is right around the corner. The excitement, the hustle and bustle, and magic of the week is so wonderful. I hope you will remember why we celebrate Christmas-Jesus. I share these verses with you and your family in hopes we all can reflect over the rich story of Christmas, of Jesus, this week. 1. Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (ESV) A child was born. He was named Jesus. And He is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He will reign forever. I wonder if the shepherds shouted out such truth? After all, they would have known what Isaiah had prophesied years earlier. 2. Luke 2:20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. (ESV) Sometimes we skip over these verses. Linus quotes them very well in Charlie Brown, but have you really listened to them and pondered? Think... a baby born in a stable, with animals, and then Shepards come to worship this baby. After standing there for who knows how long, the shepherds leave glorifying and praising God. We too, can have that awe and glorify our God this season. 3. Galatians 4:4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of woman, born under the law. (ESB) Joy to the World gets it right. Let earth receive her king. Jesus was born. The curse of sin would now be broken. God, who is faithful, did what He set out to do way back in Reminder There will be NO early service OR Sunday School on Sunday, December 24th. There will be NO early service, Sunday December 31st. Genesis. The time was right. All the characters were in place. 4. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.(esb) When reading the Christmas story with your children this year, think of these verses and consider the five senses. What was heard? seen? smelled? touched? tasted? Make the biographical story more real to those who are learning. As you listen to the music on the radio, discuss the words with your kids. Pull out the Bible and read the story that never gets old and that we can never hear enough. Merry Christmas, my friends! Christ has come and for that we give thanks.
