December 27: Christmas The Old Testament book of Exodus warns us that no one can see God and live. But during these days of celebration of the Nativity, we are mindful that in his mercy, God has, in fact, showed us his face. It is the innocent and inviting face of an infant. In Jesus, we see the face of God and we do not die, but find eternal life. Francis of Assisi pointed out that, Every day he humbles himself just as he did when he came from his heavenly throne into the virgin s womb; every day he comes to us and lets us see him in lowliness, when he descends from the bosom of the Father into the hands of the priest at the altar. In his book, Jesus of Nazareth, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI tells us what the birth of Christ means. He has brought God, and now we know his face. Now we know the path that we human beings have to take in this world. Jesus has brought God and with God the truth about where we are going and where we come from Our prayer today: In your mercy, Eternal Father, you sent your son as the dawn from on high to shine on those who dwell in darkness. May his light shine on us and guide our way. Inspiring Words from Pope Francis: What zest life acquires when we allow ourselves to be filled by the love of God! SUNDAY AFTER CHRISTMAS Troparion: Your birth, O Christ our God, has shed upon the world the light of knowledge; for through it, those who worshiped the stars have learned from a star to worship You, the Sun of Justice, and to recognize You as the Orient From On High. Glory be to You, O Lord. Troparion of the Saints: O Joseph, announce to David, ancestor of Christ, the good news of these wonders you have seen: a Virgin giving birth to a Child. With the shepherds you have glorified Him; with the wise men you have worshiped Him; and an Angel appeared to you. Ask Christ to save our souls. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, Now and ever and forever. Amen. Kontakion: Today, David, beloved of God, is filled with joy; Joseph and James offer hymns of praise; their joy is the crown of relationship with Christ. They sing praise to Him Who was wondrously born; and they cry out: O Merciful Lord, save those who honor You. Kontakion: Today the Virgin gives birth to Perfect Essence and the earth offers a cave to the Inaccessible. The Angels sing His glory with the shepherds; the wise men journey with the star, for there is born for us an Infant Child, God Eternal. Prokimenon: God is wondrous in His Saints; the God of Israel.
