PoP Communicator Page 2 of 8 May 30, 2015 Donate Personal Care Kits to Nepalese Earthquake Victims As Lutheran World Relief (LWR) works to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal, they are greatly in need of Personal Care Kits. These kits help to meet the basic personal needs of the nearly 3 million people who have been displaced by the earthquake and have virtually lost everything. Each kit contains the following: 1. One new light-weight bath-size towel, dark color recommended; 2. Two or three bath-size bars of soap (8-9 oz.) in original wrapping; 3. One adult size toothbrush in original packaging if using multi-packs, seal each toothbrush in a business-size envelope only; (toothpaste is added to the kits by LWR) 4. One sturdy comb with packaging removed; 5. One metal nail clippers with packaging removed; All items should be new. Please do not add or leave out any items. Toothpaste is added by LWR before the kits are distributed. Wrap all of the items in the towel and tie it securely with ribbons or yarn. If you would rather only provide certain items, we are happy to package the kits at the church. If you would like to help with assembling care kits at a later date, please contact Lori Stillman at lori.stillman@poplc.org. Place the completed kits, or individual items, in the marked bin by our display in the Narthex by June 15. Planning Meeting for Fall PoP Haiti Mission Trip Thursday, June 18 7:30-8:30pm Library (Room 26) We will discuss PoP s next mission trip to support the school and clinic at the Village of Hope in Haiti. The trip is planned for Thursday, September 17, thru Tuesday September 22, 2015. We have room for 14 people on this mission trip, and several people have already committed to going. Please pray for the Lord s guidance on the possibility of you joining us. The needs in Haiti are great and a visit to that country can be a life changing experience. We also need volunteers to help with trip preparations and logistics. Contact Jim Roberts if you have any questions. Jim Roberts 202-286-5001 JMRoberts3@hotmail.com Living Healthy, Loving Fully: Talking Helps! Someone once wrote, The problem with problems is that they don't come one at a time. They generally appear in clusters and sometimes they even have puppies. When one is taken care of, another pops up to take its place, and you wonder to yourself, "What did I do to deserve this?" Psychotherapy, or "talk therapy," can be very helpful in understanding problems that arise in life. Talking with a mental health professional can provide a safe place where people can explore their thoughts and feelings and discover strategies to deal with stress and unhealthy thoughts and behaviors. If you are in need of a mental health referral, please contact me. There are excellent professionals within our area who can help you no matter what your issue might be. How does the average person make sense of it all? See Through the Scriptures makes the Bible more accessible by taking readers step-by-step through the entire biblical narrative from Genesis to Revelation, putting everything in clear context. Using fullcolor teaching graphics designed to help people grasp and remember the key events and concepts of the Bible, students will gain a new appreciation for everything that preceded Jesus in order to more fully understand the deeper meaning of His ministry and message of love and servanthood.
