APPROACHING THE BIG 5-0. As our calendars turn from 2018 to 2019, I invite you to imagine even further into the future to our congregation's anniversary in 2020. It has been almost fifty years since Trinity Lutheran Church (founded in 1883) and Messiah Lutheran (founded in 1896) church joined together to become Resurrection Lutheran Church, and what a wonderful fifty years it has been! I give thanks to God for the decades of faithful and generous congregants and community members, pastors, staff, and neighbors who have provided for and carried out ministry in this place. As we approach an anniversary year, I see an opportunity to reflect on and learn about where we've been. I also see the opportunity to dream and pray about what God is calling us to do and be in the present and into the future, but I cannot do this alone. In the first half of this year, I plan to meet with all of our members and active visitors. Whether we grab coffee or a beer or go for a walk around Lakeview, I'll be inviting you to dream and pray with me. In the meantime, please keep our congregation and its ministry in your prayers. Let us pray God might reveal to us to what we are called to be and do as Resurrection in the years to come. Let us pray together for a new year of peace and justice in our world and lives. Let us pray with thanksgiving for all God has given. Holiday blessings dear ones, Pastor Kelly And a heart-felt thank you to all for your generous and thoughtful holiday gifts! SERVE WITH THE NIGHT MINISTRY We serve this month on Thursday, 17th. Please sign-up to serve on the bulletin board in the hallway behind the pulpit or online. These prayers are written or selected by members of our Stewardship Team for use in Sunday worship and for personal prayer in the month after they have been prayed in worship. December 2 Gracious God during this time between the National Holiday of Thanksgiving and the Christian Celebration of Christmas help us to be aware of where our blessings flow from and with that awareness may we constantly give thanks. Help us to be mindful of the gift of your life giving son for the sake of the world and in response to this gift may we be bearers of gifts. December 9 God of grace, Be present with those who do not feel happy or merry during this season; those who are lonely, grieving or forlorn. Move all to trust that they are loved exactly where they are, and exactly as they are. Surround your beloved with your warm embrace. Teach us to be caring and gentle with one another. December 16 Dear Lord: Thank you for the music all around us. Today we pray for the talented members of our congregation who give their time and musical gifts in service to Resurrection. Bless them and let their talents shine as they bring the Word of God to our church family through music. May your presence and beauty be found in every note and inspire us to proclaim your glory with glad voices. We thank you for the rich blessings of joyful music and musicians at Resurrection.
