Second Sunday of JUNE Advent 2, 2002 DECEMBER 9, 2012 THE LORD IS IN OUR MIDST! The Advent Series on 3 weekends in December will reflect on the theme: THE LORD IS IN OUR MIDST! Throughout the series Doctor Maureen Crossen from the Theology Department of Carlow University will reflect on the Readings of the liturgy that draw us more closely to the Lord in our midst through prayer and living lives of love, mercy, and justice. The series will take place on the First, Second and Fourth Sundays in Advent at all the Masses. The theme for the Second Sunday of Advent is God leads with his mercy and justice the Lord has done great things for us (Baruch 5:9, Ps 126:3) LITTLE BLUE BOOK THE LITTLE BLUE BOOK for the Advent and Christmas seasons 2012-2013 are available at both Worship sites. The book contains readings for each of the 28 days of the Advent Season, and the 15 days of the Christmas Season. This book provides the framework for you to enjoy one of the oldest traditions of prayer called Lectio Divina sacred reading. You read a short passage in the book each day and simply let God speak to you through the words, guiding you to reflections that sometimes seem to come from nowhere. People are often surprised at how easy it is to pray this way, and how deep such prayer can be. It can change your day. It can change your life. Please take only one book per family to ensure that everyone gets a copy. God loves you! God bless you! WELCOME and Congratulations!!! Welcome and congratulations to Robin Greiner and Keith DiMarco who were just welcomed into our Catholic Faith family through the Rite of Acceptance/ Welcoming held last Sunday at 8AM Mass. Please keep praying! And please keep being so loving and welcoming to all who desire to know, love and serve God through joining our Saint Mark Parish family. Praise God!!! Like the Baptist, parents are asked to make rough ways smooth and to prepare the way of the Lord for their families. This Advent ask: Does my life hinder or help my family to know Jesus? (Bud Ozar) PRAISE THE LORD! THANKS to YOU all who support our SAINT MARK PARISH in simple and sometimes anonymous ways. THANKS to all who helped and are continuing to help with the transition of our offices to our new location. And thank YOU! God loves you and so do I!!!
SAINT MARK PARISH MCKEESPORT, PA To live our Faith, we need to know our Faith! Year of Faith: 11 October 2012 to 24 November 2013 " They called the Church together and reported what GOD had done with them and how He had opened the door of faith..." (Acts of the Apostles 14:27). What is the Immaculate Conception? Few doctrines of the Catholic Church are as misunderstood as the dogma of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. Many people, including many Catholics, think that it refers to the conception of Christ through the action of the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. That event is the feast of the Annunciation of the Lord, celebrated on March 25, which occurs nine months before Christmas. The Immaculate Conception refers to the condition that the Blessed Virgin Mary was free from Original Sin from the very moment of her conception in the womb of her mother, Saint Anne. We celebrate the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary on September 8, nine months after the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on December 8. To become the mother of the Savior, Mary was enriched by God with gifts appropriate to such a role. The Angel Gabriel at the moment of the annunciation salutes her as full of grace. In fact, in order for Mary to be able to give the free assent of her faith to the announcement of her vocation, it was necessary that she be wholly borne by God s grace. Through the centuries the Church has become ever more aware that Mary, full of grace through God, was redeemed from the moment of her conception. That is what the dogma of the Immaculate Conception confesses, as Pope Pius IX proclaimed in 1854: The most Blessed Virgin Mary was, from the first moment of her conception, by a singular grace and privilege of almighty God and by virtue of the merits of Jesus Christ, Savior of the human race, preserved immune from all stain of original sin. The splendor of an entirely unique holiness by which Mary is enriched from the first instant of her conception comes wholly from Christ: she is redeemed, in a more exalted fashion, by reason of the merits of her Son. The Father blessed Mary more than any other created person on Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places and chose her in Christ before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless before him in love. The Fathers of the Eastern tradition call the Mother of God the All-Holy (Panagia) and celebrate her as free from any stain of sin, as though fashioned by the Holy Spirit ad formed as a new creature. By the grace of God, Mary remained free of every personal sin her whole life long. Catechism of the Catholic Church, (Articles 489-493) With his own hands God the Father has impressed on Mary s heart a perfect semblance of the divine qualities of his love.
