Summerville Presbyterian Church Communion Sunday November 20, 2016 A SERVICE FOR THE WORSHIP OF GOD Eight forty-five and Eleven fifteen o clock Services Welcome Prelude (8:45) This is My Father's World arr. Kevin McChesney Ye Friendly Ringers (11:15) Come to the Table Martin J. Nystrom Choir Silent Prayers/Acolyte Candle Lighting Invocation *Call to Worship: Leader: Let the trumpet blast! Let the ram's horn sound! Leader: Let the earth shout and the heavens declare. Let the mountains and rivers and seas proclaim: Leader: Let the angels and archangels announce the news and let the people of God join the everlasting refrain: *Hymn # 151 (blue hymnal) Crown Him With Many Crowns George Job Elvey *Prayer of Confession: God, we confess that often we do not want a Savior who is a King or a Redeemer who has any claims on us. We would prefer Jesus to be subject to us. We have our own plans and agendas. We are happy for Jesus to rubber-stamp them but not a Savior to whom we owe allegiance and obedience. Forgive our foolishness, O God! Forgive our arrogance and selfishness. We know that everything we have and everything we are is a gift from You, but we are forgetful and stubborn. Thank You for not giving up on us. We ask for forgiveness, not because of anything we have or have not done, but only for the sake of Christ the King. *Silent Prayer *Kyrie Eleison Lord have mercy upon us. Christ have mercy upon us. Lord have mercy upon us. *Assurance of Pardon *Gloria Patri (blue hymnal) #579 Children s Song O How I Love Jesus Frederick Whitfield O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, O how I love Jesus, because He first loved me.

SPIRITUAL GROWTH Young Adults and Families are invited to join the New Beginnings class on Saturday, Dec. 3rd at the home of TJ & Dawn Hutnik at 4:00 pm to enjoy a potluck and decorate mini gingerbread houses. Please bring a dish to share. RSVP to TJ & Dawn Hutnik or summervillepresyoungadults@gmail.com FELLOWSHIP PrimeTimers In December we will have the annual Christmas party at Sticky Fingers on N. Main St. in Summerville. We will have the white elephant gift exchange (maximum value $10) and also will be deciding to which charitable organizations the PrimeTimers wish to donate some of our money. In January we will have an in-house luncheon in Lanneau Hall at noon. On December 16th we will go to Santee to see the Christmas lights. We will leave the church at 4 pm and have dinner at Music Man Barbecue again, which runs around $12-$15 per person. Look for the Simple Signup in the December bulletin. Questions should be directed to Paul Werksman at 843-718-7372. Please note this is a walking trip to get up the hill, see the vendors, and see the sights of the season. We will also listen to local choir groups that we enjoyed last year. Heading into the January itinerary, we will have lunch inside on the third Thursday at noon, with our usual potluck lunch. I have all the suggestions everyone gave me, and I am working to try and acquire the speaker for the season. PW CHRISTMAS PROJECT Presbyterian Women will be collecting items to be distributed to needy, homebound senior citizens in Dorchester County who are being served by Dorchester Seniors, Inc. These homebound clients receive noon meals and supportive in-home services which enable them to remain in their homes. There will be donation boxes in the church office and in Lanneau Hall. All donations need to be in by Friday, December 9th. Please join us in this effort to make a difference in our county. Goody bags will be delivered to these people before Christmas. Items on the wish list include: Things they need most - Single serving non-perishable food (applesauce, small boxes of cereal, fruits, juice boxes, tuna, potted meat, microwaveable soups, canned vegetables, individual packs of crackers, breakfast / energy bars, small peanut butter, anything that can be easily opened & prepared, even in a power outage), disposable products (small quantities for individuals), single roll toilet paper, tissues, paper plates, plastic bowls, and plastic flatware, soaps, lotions and hand sanitizers, hair combs & brushes, single toothbrushes & toothpaste, ChapStick, small packs of hard candies, baking soda (new item this year). SERVICE Home of Hope s Mission is to provide a safe shelter, food, support services and an avenue to self sufficiency for homeless men in our community. SPC is providing ministry support for the LowCountry Home of Hope a shelter for homeless men through listening and being available for them. The ministry also has practical needs. WISH LIST: cold medicine, brushes & combs, toilet cleaner, air freshener, PineSol, laundry detergent, dish soap, toilet paper, paper towels, food storage bags (all sizes), long johns (assorted sizes), push broom for outside, large lawn rake. Costa Rica Mission Trip Dinner: Mark your calendar for Wednesday, November 30th @ 6:00 PM in Lanneau Hall. The Costa Rica Travel Team invites you to a dinner and presentation about this year s trip. More details to follow in the coming weeks.

Thank You: On behalf of Hands of Christ, the Service Ministry Team would like to thank Jim Hamilton and Jeff Bowers for nominating the HOC site at SPC for an award given by the North Area Top Producers. Our outreach program received a grant of $500 to be used toward next year s distribution. These funds will go a long way toward buying clothes and supplies for our clients who attend the next distribution. Having community involvement such as this is not only heartwarming, but is also quite helpful to this wonderful mission project. CHILDREN There WILL be Children's Worship today. Children may stay to take Holy Communion as a family, as usual, if they desire. Service Project Update: SPC Kids made over 325 magnet stones, reading "Thanks be to God," for the Thanksgiving Basket Project. Many thanks to our children for their efforts on this! Children's Advent Series: From Nov 27-Dec 11, our children will be learning about the Advent season during Children's Worship. Save the Dates: The Children's Christmas Pageant will take place Dec. 4 at 6:30. On Dec. 18, we will have Family Advent Day at 2 pm in the gym. We will make keepsake ornaments and decorate cookies. Finally, please make plans to join our kid-friendly Christmas Eve service on Dec 24. YOUTH Chili Cook-off and Silent Auction: On December 4th 5:30 pm-7:30 pm in the gym, we will be having the annual chili cook-off accompanied by the silent auction! If you have a well-known chili or love to cook, enter your chili for a chance to win the contest and receive a nice apron! We will also be having a silent auction, which will be a great opportunity for gift shopping for your loved ones! Please keep us in mind for your Christmas shopping! See the Simple Signup for registering your chili and remember to give it a fittingly amazing name! Random Acts of Kindness: Youth tonight will be from 4:30 pm-6:30 pm, and we will be doing our annual random acts of kindness events! Each youth needs to bring $10 and be ready for a great experience of serving our wonderful community. The youth have baked fresh cookies of many varieties, and we invite you to fill up a bag of cookies of your choice for $5. Variety is the spice of life, and this is a great way to complete your holiday baking!
