THE ACTS OF THE APOSTLES The Church of Jesus on Mission Empowered by the Spirit
To the Father Through the Son By the Spirit
We pray to the Father because He has absolute and uncontested supremacy, including authority over the Son and the Spirit. Yet, as finite creatures, the only way we can come to the Father is on the basis of Christ, who alone is the Mediator between God and men. We come in His name by His authority because of His grace. Bruce Ware
The only way we come to the Father, in the name of Jesus, is by the power of the Spirit inside of us conforming us into the likeness of Christ helping us honor Christ by praying the will of Christ for His kingdom. That is why we must pray at all times in the Spirit. Thus, Christian prayer recognizes the eternal order reflected in the Trinitarian relations among the Persons of the Godhead. Bruce Ware
Our prayers are directed to the Father. This, then, is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:9
Our prayers are through the accomplishments and authority of Jesus. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Hebrews 10:19-22
Our prayers are guided by the Holy Spirit. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. Romans 8:26

Thanksgiving: Grateful for The blessings of the Lord. Ephesians 1:15
Thanksgiving: For this reason, because I have heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love toward all the saints, I do not cease to give thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, Ephesians 1:15-16
Confession: Acknowledgment of sin and sinfulness.
Confession:... and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. Matthew 6:12
Confession: If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Confession: But the tax collector, standing far off, would not even lift up his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, God, be merciful to me, a sinner! Luke 18:13
Petition: Making requests of God.
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God Ėphesians 3:14-19
Prayer and the Sovereignty of God
God is sovereign: Our God is in heaven; he does whatever pleases him. Psalm 115:3
God ordained prayer to be a part of His sovereign plan: The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. James 5:16
Prayer aligns us with the purposes of God. Acts
