INTRODUCTION Gabriel Comes to Mary Isaiah 7:14, Luke 1:26-38 SCENE 1 Shepherds on the Hillside Isaiah 52:7, Luke 2:1-14 CAROL The First Nowell The first Nowell the angel did say, Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay; In fields where they lay keeping their sheep, On a cold winter's night that was so deep. Refrain Refrain: Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Born is the King of Israel. They looked up and saw a star Shining in the east, beyond them far, And to the earth it gave great light, And so it continued both day and night. Refrain SCENE 2 The Manger Isaiah 9:6, Luke 2:15-19 CAROL Away in a Manger Away in the manger, no crib for a bed, The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head. The stars in the sky looked down where he lay, The little Lord Jesus, asleep on the hay. The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes, But little Lord Jesus, no crying he makes. I love thee, Lord Jesus look down from the sky, And stay by my side till morning is nigh. Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay, Close by me forever and love me, I pray. Bless all the dear children in your tender care, And fit us for heaven to live with you there.

SCENE 3 The Wise Men Psalm 97:1 & 6, Matthew 2:1-12 CAROL We Three Kings of Orient Are We three kings of Orient are Bearing gifts we traverse afar. Field and fountain, moor and mountain, Following yonder star. Refrain: O star of wonder, star of night, Star with royal beauty bright, Westward leading, still proceeding, Guide us to thy perfect Light. CONCLUSION CAROL REPRISE O Come, All Ye Faithful Yea, Lord, we greet thee, born this happy morning; Jesus, to thee be glory given; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing: Refrain: O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, O come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord! *OFFERING OF GIFTS During the carol, please bring your gifts forward to the manger at the front of the church. There are also ushers with baskets in the back. There are two ways to give tonight. Financial gifts given directly to the church support the many ministries here. In addition we are participating in Neighbors in Need, a special offering of the United Church of Christ that supports ministries that address hunger, poverty, violence, human rights, peace-making, social justice, environmental concerns and public policy advocacy. If you wish to give to this ministry, please use the special envelopes and write NIN in the memo line of your check (which can be made payable to Wellesley Congregational Church). Thank you for your generosity.

*CAROL Hark the Herald Angels Sing Hark! The herald angels sing, Glory to the newborn king; Peace on earth and mercy mild, God and sinners reconciled! Dear Christmas Eve worshippers, Lowly shepherds, worldly travelers, heavenly angels, and a young girl with her betrothed were among those who first experienced the marvel and mystery of God born among us. It s a reminder that God desires to be at home among ordinary people, and often calls the most unlikely together. With gratitude for the story of the first Christmas, we extend to you this Christmas Eve a welcome as broad as the outstretched arms of God. If you are looking for a church home, we hope you will return again and again to experience more of life together here. Wellesley Village Church is a holy place to be, belong, and become, and we would love to share the journey of life in faith with you. Tonight, may this sanctuary be a holy place for you. Wherever you are on the journey of life and faith, may you experience the profound love of God made known in Emmanuel. Wishing you a blessed Christmas! ~ Rev.
