Introduction: Real Power The dictionary tells us that power is the ability to act.

Introduction: Real Power The dictionary tells us that power is the ability to act. We are a people who either have power, want power, or are trying to get power. And we often want power to make ourselves look good or feel signi?icant.

Introduction: Real Power This passage is about being a channel of God s power, but again it s not what anybody would have expected.

Introduction: Real Power This passage is about being a channel of God s power, but again it s not what anybody would have expected. Jesus: Where can I?ind one person willing to join me in what I m doing in this hungry world? To whom can I give my power so they ll use if for my will?

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish

Sea of Galilee (Ma$hew 4:18; Mark 1:16; John 6:1) Sea of Tiberias (John 6:1, 21:1) Sea of Kinnereth (Numbers 34:11; Joshua 12:3, 13:27) Lake of Gennesaret (Luke 5:1; John 6:1)

The northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee features a fergle plain where the feeding of the 5,000 likely took place. John 6:10 says, There was plenty of grass in that place, and Mark 6:39 says that the people sat down on the green grass. The Plain of Bethsaida (cf. Mark 6:45) is about 5 square miles in area, very spacious, and crisscrossed by streams, aqueducts, and irrigagon canals. There are many flat hills on which it would be possible to seat large numbers of people.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Outside the resurrection of Jesus, this miracle is the only one mentioned in all four Gospels.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Outside the resurrection of Jesus, this miracle is the only one mentioned in all four Gospels. The text refers to 5,000 men (v. 10), which suggests that 15,000 people or more may have been fed.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish If this miracle did not happen, the four Gospels never could have circulated with any credibility.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish If this miracle did not happen, the four Gospels never could have circulated with any credibility. In the OT, God fed the Israelites in the desert, showing his power to create and sustain life in a dead place.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish When Jesus likewise multiples the food on a massive scale, he is revealing his own divine identity.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish When Jesus likewise multiples the food on a massive scale, he is revealing his own divine identity. The treasury of manna will come down again from on high... at the consummation of time.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Jesus demonstrates the super-abounding nature of his power, grace, and generosity.

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Jesus demonstrates the super-abounding nature of his power, grace, and generosity. The vehicle through whom Jesus chooses to display his power is a poor, insigni?icant boy (v. 9).

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Jesus allows his disciples to participate in the miracle (v. 10; cf. Matt 14:16; Mark 6:37; Luke 9:13).

The MIRACLE of the Bread and Fish Jesus allows his disciples to participate in the miracle (v. 10; cf. Matt 14:16; Mark 6:37; Luke 9:13). Jesus gets no joy out of displaying his raw power; he wants to involve his people in his mission.

The MEANING of the Bread and Fish

The MEANING of the Bread and Fish To be a channel of divine power, recognize your own powerlessness.
