Cassie s Corner Shasta Miners and Prospectors Association (SMPA) January 2019 Pg. 61 Happy New Year Shasta Miners and Prospectors! As your new Vice President, I have some pretty big shoes to fill! I would like to take a quick moment to thank our outgoing VP, Woody Woodward, for all he has done for SMPA. I hope to be able, with his expert assistance, to uphold to his standards. Thank you, Woody! We have several new events in the planning stages for this year, and our regular yearly events. I hope that one of YOUR New Year s Resolutions will be to volunteer at some of these events! Our calendar section will show some of these as some dates and some are to be announced. Yes, I will be asking for a lot of volunteers, but remember that volunteering at events is only a small part of being a SMPA member. We have claim clean up days, cooking for the events, showing off your mining skills at the events, even set up and taking down the tables and chairs at our monthly meetings, bringing cookies or other refreshments even donating raffle prizes. We can t do this without all of your help. Speaking of help, how many of you have taken a new member out to a claim or detecting? Remember, we were all new members at one time, and we had a lot to learn. When you see someone new to a meeting, introduce yourself and find out what we can do to encourage them! Sluicing, panning and swinging a detector can be a bit intimidating in a group setting when you don t really know the ropes. If you see a new member out and about, take it upon yourself to share your knowledge! As I said earlier, we do have a couple new events planned for this year, but what would YOU like to see or hear about during the education portion of our monthly meetings? Feel free to email me any suggestions and I will try my best! Remember, boldly go where no pan has gone before! GUIDED METAL DETECTING OUTINGS: Usually occur on the Second Saturday morning after the regular scheduled meeting. The location of the hunt is announced at the general meeting. If you are unable to attend the meeting please contact Bill Doyle, Metal Detecting Chair. Email:doylewt@aol.com or call (530)-549-3039 December Metal Detecting Outing Bill Doyle Due to the busy Holiday Season there was no formal club outing in the Month of December. I wish you all a very prosperous, healthy, and happy 2019 New Year and a belated Merry Christmas. Weather permitting, we will have a detecting outing in January, the date and location of that outing will be announced at the January 17 th meeting. Once again the Annual Treasurer Hunt, put on by the Northwest Treasure Hunters of Spokane, Washington, will be held June 14 th through June 16, 2019. The Hunt will be held at Farragut State Park, Athol, Idaho. This will be the 47 th year that this event has taken place and from personal experience, I can vouch that this Hunt will be outstanding. For further information concerning this Hunt contact:: Email: DuncanB73@gmail.com Phone: 1-208-660-4852 Website:www.nwthclub.com Facebook: Northwest Treasure Hunters Club See you at the next meeting, Bill Bill Schumpert Guided Claims Outings: Guided Claims outings are scheduled the first Sat. following the general meeting. For more information contact Bill Schum pert, Chair (530) 440-8414. Hello fellow Miner's hope you are having a great start to the year. This is the time we all need to get our equipment and gear ready for this new season of mining. We will have a outing this month, I will see how many people want to go and where we want to go and decide at the meeting. See you soon. William Schumpert / Claims Chair
