INTRODUCTION Welcome to the exposition study on the Epistle to the Philippians. This epistle is often referred to as one of the prison epistles because it was written by Paul during his imprisonment in Rome. TEXTBOOKS: The Holy Bible KJV or NKJV, The Message of Philippians, by J.A. Motyer published by IVP Academic, 1984* and Phillippians-TNTC by Ralph P. Martin, published by InterVarsity Press, 1987.* It s recommended that you use Young s Analytical Concordance to the Bible by Robert Young, published by Hendrickson Publishers, no date and The Hebrew- Greek Key Word Study Bible KJV by Spiros Zodhiates, published by AMG International, Inc., 1991. Other recommended books are: The Nelson Study Bible, published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1997, and The Believer s Bible Commentary by William MacDonald edited by Art Farstad published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, 1989. Upon completion of this course you should be able to: Explain why Paul is accepted as the author of this epistle; be able to state the reason Paul wrote this epistle; state the major theme for this epistle and show how the teaching of this epistle is relevant the church today. You should be able to explain what a model church and model Christian should be like. Apply the spiritual lessons learned in these epistles to your life and ministry today.
