The Kibbitzer Temple Am Shalom Mentor, Ohio MARCH 2018 ADAR-NISSAN 5778 A WORD FROM RENÉE We ve had a very busy February, and March is coming in like a lion & will be exiting the same way. February started with a Shabbat service with 25 people in attendance. Our second Shabbat started with dinner at the Fuji Grill Chinese Buffet with services following at temple. Twenty two people enjoyed this evening and some requested we do it again soon. Our Hamantaschen 101 class was a big hit, with everyone showing off their baking abilities. Flour, food and fun were shared by all. Quickly, following the baking class, will be our Purim Bowling at Scores Fun Center in Painesville on Friday, March 2 nd. Come enjoy the bowling, the band, the raffles, the pizza and the Hamantaschen. This event is always so much fun and we get to raise money for the temple. The month of March holds much more for our congregants to participate in. On Wednesday, March 7, we will have our usual board of directors meeting, with a visit by Mr. Steven Edelstein from the Jewish Legacy Project. The first part of the meeting will be led by Steven, who is visiting small congregations to discuss how they can help our congregation insure its legacy. The meeting is open to all congregants who are in good standing. Refreshments will be served. There will be two Shabbat services in March. Elise will be leading the service on March 16 th and Renee will be leading the service on March 23 rd. The oneg on March 23 rd will be sponsored by Bob & Lauren Sobol in honor of their 50 th anniversary. Mazel Tov to you both! On Sunday, March 25th, we will be sharing our Passover recipes and bringing in samples to share. Andy would like to print up your recipes in advance so that everyone can take them home with them to use for our upcoming Passover holiday Seders. Please send your amazing recipes to Andy at akenen@gmail.com by March 19 th. We will be meeting at 11:00 a.m. Don t miss it! I have recently received two inquiries from local churches requesting information about us. Specifically, Rev. Beth Wilterdink, from Hope Ridge United Methodist Church in Concord Township, asked to meet with me concerning having an interfaith Passover Seder with members of her church. We have met twice and are looking at Thursday, March 29 th, to share a Seder meal with her congregation. Am Shalom will be supplying the desserts. If you are interested in attending, please contact Renee at the temple office 440-255-1544 by March 22 nd. I was also contacted by The Rev. Lisa O Rear, Rector at St. Andrew Episcopal Church in Mentor, who asked if she could bring her confirmation class of four students, middle school-high school age, to one of our Friday night services, to learn more about our Jewish faith. She offered to stop by and discuss this with me and indicated that We re neighbors and it s about time we met. Thanks to Jerry Blane and his experts, we now have two new doors, with push bars. The back door and the side door have been installed and will be painted when the weather warms up. (Although, the end of February was not too bad!) Also, Tom Russ has installed our burglary system, and soon we'll be hooked up to the police department for emergencies.
