Course Title: Bible First Grade Bible Course Map--2013 Duration: 1 year Frequency: 4 times per week Year: May 2013 Text: Positive Action Bible Curriculum (1 st Grade Enjoying God s Gifts) Other materials: trade books, God s World, music CD s, magnetic picture, the Bible; student workbooks Areas to be evaluated: knowledge of Biblical history and principles, development of Godly characteristics, recall of scripture that parallels weekly Additional activities: weekly chapel lessons, spontaneous integration of life applications, workbook activities Course objectives: The student will engage in weekly Bible lessons that will encourage spiritual growth and memorize scripture while comprehending and applying Biblical truth. Course explanation: First Graders will focus on the many gifts of love provided for us by God. Emphasis will be on aspects of creation, our families, friends, possessions, Jesus Christ and God s care for us. Students will learn about Biblical characters that God used to implement His plan for us. Unit: 1- The Story of Creation Time frame: 6 weeks : God is the creator of all things. Before the earth was created, there was nothing but God. Jesus Christ is God. Creation is a result of God s orderly planning. God made all things for us to enjoy. We need to be thankful to God for His creation. Everything God made has its own beauty and purpose. People are made in the image or likeness of God. God made the first family and has a plan for families. God has given us all work to do and our attitudes about work are important to God. When we obey God s rules, we live together happily. thankfulness, love, work habits, and obedience.
Activities: Students will order pictures that tell story of creation. Students will draw pictures of something they enjoy that God created. Students will draw and picture and write a sentence about their family. Unit: 2- The Stories of Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Joseph Time frame: 4 weeks *Beginner s Bible video s of Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Joseph God will not forget about sin and will punish sin. God will help those who love him. God always keeps his promises. God has a special plan for our lives and will help us understand His special plan if we trust Him. We should always choose God s way because His way is right. God will always take care of us and will be with us wherever we go. He will never leave us. God can turn problems into something good. We should learn to forgive others. - The student will be encouraged to develop the character traits of honor, respect, unselfishness, honesty, and forgiveness. Activities: Students will name and draw pictures of animals Noah would have brought on the ark. Students will do a rainbow art
project. Students will watch Beginner s Bible videos about Noah, Abraham, Jacob and Joseph. Unit: 3- The Stories of Josiah and Joash Time frame: 3 weeks *legos, tinker toys, Lincoln logs, etc. that students bring from home. The Bible is God s Word for us and teaches us about God s ways, and how to determine right from wrong. As we care about God, we will also care for God s House. Even a child can love and serve God We must learn to obey all of God s commands God wrote the Bible by the Holy Spirit working in the minds and hearts of godly people. We should give offerings to God. industriousness, obedience, and courteousness. Activities: Students will use various objects (legos, tinker toys, etc.) to construct a model of a temple.
Unit: 4 part 1- The Stories of Jesus as a boy Time frame: 4 weeks Jesus is God s own Son God had a special plan for Mary and He has a special plan for each of us. Mary and Joseph were obedient to God. Jesus was born in a stable in Bethlehem. God used angels and shepherds to tell the story of Jesus birth. Wise men followed the Star of Bethlehem to bring gifts to Jesus and worship Him. God protected His Son. God accomplishes His will in spite of His enemies. Jesus was an obedient and loving boy. God wants us to learn to be like Jesus. joy, kindness, enthusiasm and giving. Activities: Students will participate in a role-playing activity to tell the story of Jesus birth. Unit: 4 part 2 The stories of Jesus as a man Time frame: 9 weeks Satan is the enemy of God and of all Christians. Jesus was tempted by Satan, but He did not sin.
*Beginner s Bible video of Holy Week Satan tempts us to do wrong and it is our choice to decide whether to obey God or Satan. We cannot blame anyone else for our wrong choices. We can defeat Satan by using the Word of God and obeying what it tells us to do. Jesus called twelve men to be His disciples. Everyone is very important to Jesus. Jesus loves children. Jesus can heal the sick and raise the dead. Jesus will use everything we give Him. We never have to be afraid when we have Jesus. Jesus can do anything. Jesus wants us to believe in Him. God knows everyone by name. Jesus did not sin; He was perfect. Jesus is God. Jesus died on the cross to pay for our sins. Jesus knew He would die, and He knew He would be alive in three days. We know that Jesus is God because He was dead and is alive again, waiting in heaven for us. courage, trust, sharing, honesty and thankfulness. Activities: Students will role play the stories of Jesus calling his disciples, feeding the 5,000, Jesus walking on water, Jesus healing a blind man, and the story of the lost sheep. Students will watch the Beginner s Bible video of Jesus entering Jerusalem, crucifixion and resurrection.
Unit: 5- The story of Samuel Time frame: 2 weeks Hannah was obedient to God. God listened to Hannah s prayers. God answered Hannah s prayers as an example for us. God will teach us if we listen to Him through His Word. God teaches us right from wrong. We should decide to love and obey God all of our lives. individuality and attentiveness. Activities: Students will role play the story of Samuel Unit: 6- The story of David Time frame: 3 weeks God has a special plan for your life. David showed responsibility in doing his chores. If we take care of the things God gives us to do when we are little, God will give us special things to do when we are grown. David had courage to kill the giant Goliath because he trusted
God. We do not have to be afraid because God will protect us. King Saul teaches us what a terrible sin jealousy is. Jonathan teaches us what real friendship is. responsibility, courage and friendship. Activities: Students will role play the story of David and Goliath. Students will write a friendship letter to a classmate. Unit: 7 The story of Elijah Time frame: 4 weeks God will provide for all of our needs. When we learn to share and give to others, God will make sure we are blessed and receive much in return. God can make people alive again. We will live in heaven after we have died physically, if we have accepted Jesus as our Savior. God is the all-powerful one because He created all things. God will always hear our prayers and will answer them according to His will. God loves us and will care for us as a mother and father comfort and care for their children.
