Angels ( Gk.32 [to bring tidings] a messenger) (Context: 2 Cor 12:1-7 verses Rev 2:1) Fallen Angels: Free Agency _ Mat 25:41 Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Just as parents know their children will disobey them but bring them into the world anyway, so God is with His children (Rev 4:11 " for Thy pleasure ") including angels and Satan. "Does that make them responsible for the wrong their child commits, especially when they have done their best to love him and train him correctly? Of course not!" God, thus, is not responsible for Satan's choice to sin. Jas 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Rom 5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come. Adam sinned in a sinless environment as a "free agent" (Gen 2:16-17) his influence to sin coming from Satan. Jud 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, He hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. Quartermous: Satan, along with the angels, had their "probationary period" in God's presence. Thos. B. Warren: " this world was formed to be inhabited as an environment of soul making, a place to make our decision, during the one and only probationary period of man (Jn 20:29) and we have been informed that when this life is over we will not fall from that place in Heaven." (1 Thes 4:17b) "We have already seen the destiny of lost men and be eternally reminded of the existence of the lost."

(As long as this being "eternally reminded" does not result in fear.) 1Jn 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. Rev 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Lucifer/Satan: No double prophesy concerning Satan's fall Isa 14:4 That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased! 5 The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers. 6 He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth. 7 The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing. 8 Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us. 9 Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations. 10 All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us? 11 Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee. 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; 17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners? 18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house. 19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet. 20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned. Lucifer is a Latin translation of the Hebrew word "helel" which is not a "proper name, much less the devil's former name." It is "a poor and misleading translation in the English versions." (KJV-Lucifer, ASV [1901]- day star)

H1966 he yle lהילל hay-lale' From H1984 (in the sense of brightness); the morning star: - lucifer. " Isaiah is mocking the arrogant claims of the King of Babylon that he was a god." (vs. 13, 14) (See also Ez 28 concerning the king of Tyre, verses 1 and 2 and Rev 13 concerning Caesar.) Upon reporting that " even the devils are subject unto us through Thy name" (v. 17 of Lk 10:1-20), Jesus said to the disciples " I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven." Either He was telling them that He witnessed Satan's defeat because of their casting out devils in Jesus' name, or that they were not to rejoice in this because He witnessed Satan's quick/sudden fall in the beginning and they were to " rather rejoice because your names are written in Heaven (Gk.3772- abode of God in this context). In other words "that's nothing, just stay focused on your eternal destiny." Origin of Satan: He is not Deity Deity is eternal: Deu 33:27 The eternal God Psa 102:27 But Thou art the same, and Thy years shall have no end. Rev 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Omnipotent: Gen 17:1 I am the Almighty God; Omnipresent: Heb 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with Whom we have to do. Omniscient: Jer 23:23 Am I a God at hand, saith the LORD, and not a God afar off? 24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

Psa 139:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, Thou hast searched me, and known me. 2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, Thou understandest my thought afar off. 3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, Thou knowest it altogether. 5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me. 6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it. By comparison Satan is not omnipotent: 1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is He that is in you, than he (Satan) that is in the world. Not omnipresent: 2Co 4:4 the god of this world Not omniscient: Jas 4:7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Satan is in fact a "created" being, thus not eternal. War in Heaven: (Rev 12) Not Satan's original fall Rev 12:7 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Jesus witnessed Satan's fall in the beginning which wasn't long after he was created. "As lightning" (Lk 10:18) would indicate how quick he fell. His being cast out here would indicate that he no longer had access to the throne in Heaven in order to accuse the saints. Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. 7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered My servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? 9 Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? 10 Hast not Thou made an hedge about

him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? Thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. 11 But put forth Thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse Thee to Thy face. Rev 12:10 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. His fall (See: The Origin of Angels) "Could a loving God possibly create a monstrous being like Satan?" Gen 1:31 And God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Wayne Jackson: " the being known in the Bible as Satan was not created as Satan, i.e., as an adversary. He was created good, but he became bad " 1Jn 3:8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth (has been sinning- present active indicative i.e. from the first sin which resulted in his becoming the devil) from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Guy N. Woods: "Being the first sinner, the devil is the source of sin (Gen 3:14), the foundation from which it springs, the father of all who practice it. (Jn 8:44) since he has persisted in sin without interruption whosoever sins thus persistently partakes of him who is their spiritual father." The first sin was to tempt Eve to do what God said not to. (Gen 3:1-4) Rom 14:13 Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Rom 14:19 Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another. 20 For meat destroy not the work of God. All things indeed are pure; but it is evil for that man who eateth with offence. 21 It is good neither to eat flesh, nor to drink wine, nor any thing whereby thy brother stumbleth, or is offended, or is made weak.

1Ti 3:6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil. (Interlinear: " into the crime of the devil he may fall.") In verse 6 we see the phrase "condemnation of the devil" which differs from the phrase in verse 7 "snare of the devil". Snare denotes entrapment set by Satan. Condemnation, therefore, in verse 6 is speaking of a "like sin" committed by the evil one and that sin which Paul is warning about here is pride! This "verse is teaching that pride was the sin which caused Satan's fall from Heaven's grace." Satan's Angels: Fallen but not judged 2Pe 2:4 God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; The ability to sin shows power of choice. Thus, angels are free moral agents who "live under some divine law." Rom 4:15 Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. Jud 6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. First estate: Authoritative power. G746 α ρχη arche ar-khay' From G756; (properly abstract) a commencement, or (concrete) chief (in various applications of order, time, place or rank): - beginning, corner, (at the, the) first (estate), magistrate, power, principality, principle, rule. This rebellion was their choice. But where are they kept for this mutiny? 2Pe 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

G5020 ταρχταρχο ω tartaroo tar-tar-o'-o From Τα ρχταρχος Tartaros (the deepest abyss of Hades); to incarcerate in eternal torment: - cast down to hell. The only place in the Bible where "hell" is used in this form. The deepest abyss of Hades. G86 α δης hade s hah'-dace From G1 (as a negative particle) and G1492; properly unseen, that is, Hades or the place (state) of departed souls: - grave, hell. Reserved: It's temporary. "They will be taken from that place of darkness to face the Master they dared to rebel against." Even the rich man of Luke 16 wasn't in such a tormented place. Unto: For the purpose of JUDGMENT! Not there yet Mat 25:41 Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from Me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: Hell is not the Devil's "kingdom, but will be his eternal prison." Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. 1Pe 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: No salvation for fallen angels Gal 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham. G4102 πι στις pistis pis'-tis From G3982; persuasion, that is, credence; moral conviction (of religious truth, or the truthfulness of God or a religious teacher), especially reliance upon Christ for salvation; abstractly constancy in such profession; by extension the system of religious (Gospel) truth itself: - assurance, belief, believe, faith, fidelity.

Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Heb 2:16 For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels; but He took on Him the seed of Abraham. Milligan: "took (Gk.1949) on" means "to take hold of any person with the view of helping him." G1949 ε πιααβαα νοοβαι epilambanomai ep-ee-lam-ban'-om-ahee Middle voice from G1909 and G2983; to seize (for help, injury, attainment or any other purpose; literally or figuratively): - catch, lay hold (up-) on, take (by, hold of, on). Heb 2:17 Wherefore in all things it behoved Him to be made like unto His brethren, (v. 14- "flesh and blood" in order to die and thus resurrect defeating Satan's power of death.) Judging fallen angels 1Co 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? 2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters? 3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life? Mat 12:39 But He answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. 42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. We are not in the literal presence of God when we make our decisions concerning sin. The angels were. Our obedient faith blesses us (Jn 20:29) and saves us (1 Jn 5:4) and by it our actions judge the disobedient. Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. The present war with Satan and his angels

Rom 8:38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, 39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Eph 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. " God's angels are also providentially involved in the fight against Satan and his angels." " not all of the fallen angels are imprisoned in Tartaros." "Why is not explained to us in the scriptures." "Perhaps God's imprisonment of some of the fallen angels is one way in which He limited the devil's power." Satan still being active shows man's free choice. Updated 9/15/11
