THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT - OCULI March 19, 2017 Seeing His reflection in our mirror!

Transcription:

Seminar Theme: Jesus and the Samaritan Woman 5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. 6 Now Jacob s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour. 7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, Give Me a drink. 8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food. 9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans. 10 Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water. 11 The woman said to Him, Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water? 12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock? 13 Jesus answered and said to her, Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, 14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life. 15 The woman said to Him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw. 16 Jesus said to her, Go, call your husband, and come here. 17 The woman answered and said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have well said, I have no husband, 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly. 19 The woman said to Him, Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship. 21 Jesus said to her, Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth. 25 The woman said to Him, I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When He comes, He will tell us all things. 26 Jesus said to her, I who speak to you am He. 27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, What do You seek? or, Why are You talking with her? 28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ? 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him. John 4:5-30 NKJV 1

Guest Speakers Jean McClure Calvary Way Ministries - Corona Del Mar, California Jean McClure was born in Rochester, Minnesota. She was born again in California at Mt. Hermon Christian Conference Center when she was seven. At the age of 14, Jean went to Orlando, Florida to go to a boarding school called Hampden DuBose Academy. She found that the Lord was real and relevant and that He was always right there with her, even when her parents were 3,000 miles away. It was a good experience for her, although the discipline of a boarding school was not always easy. Difficult as it was, however, it prepared her with valuable and necessary life lessons that would serve her in the years ahead as a believer, mother and pastor s wife. Jean met Don at church while she was attending Westmont College and he was attending Cal Poly. They were married in 1968. They were on staff at Calvary Chapel in Costa Mesa, CA when Kay Smith, Pastor Chuck s wife, taught a Bible study in their home. It was during this time that Jean fell in love with ministering to women. The Lord has given her the privileged opportunity of heading up women s ministries in the churches Don has pastored and sharing through the years at women s retreats and couple s retreats with Don. The Lord blessed them with three boys that have given her countless illustrations and now grandchildren and great-grandchildren that do the same. It is not easy to be a wife or a mother or a woman in the crazy world we live in today but Jesus has answers for us. Sandy MacIntosh MacIntosh Ministries - San Diego, California Sandy and her husband Mike MacIntosh have been happily married for 50 years. For 41 years, Mike faithfully pastored Horizon Christian Fellowship in San Diego where his son, Phillip, has now transitioned into that role. This new season of ministry is providing Mike and Sandy more opportunity to travel and equip the church worldwide, as well as reaching those who are hurting and lost. Sandy is an author and she has spoken evangelistically and as an encouragement to pastors wives and women across the United States and internationally. She has five children, twenty grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The women of Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia have enjoyed Sandy s rich and inspiring teachings from the Word of God for many years. 4

Guest Speakers Gail Mays Gail Mays Ministries - Murrieta, California Gail has experienced many seasons of life in her long-time walk with the Lord. She first came to know the Lord in the early 70 s at the height of the revival known as The Jesus Movement. It was during that time she met and married her husband, Steve Mays. Together they served in the Christian House Ministries of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa for about 8 years. Then the Lord called Steve to pastor a Calvary Chapel of his own and led them to South Bay where they served together for 34 years. In October of 2014, the Lord called Pastor Steve home after one of his many surgeries. Pastor Steve s work is complete now and Gail is certain the first words he heard when he arrived in heaven were, Well done thou good and faithful servant. (Matthew 25:23) Gail herself is carrying on the ministry that the Lord has called her to. She loves ministering to women and plans to continue doing so until the Lord returns or calls her home. Many have asked her how she finds the strength and courage to press on and her answer is the same as it has been during every season of her life: With Jesus and His Word I am moving forward. Gail has three adult children and seven grandchildren. Since her children are grown and out on their own, she has plenty of time to devote to the work of the Lord! Though she s involved in a variety of things, the one thing she loves to do most is minister to women. She can relate to them in so many ways as she has experienced being a wife, pastor s wife, mother, mother of a prodigal, friend, empty nester, grandmother, caregiver, and now in this season, a widow. Gail has a heart for women and their unique calling and she takes every opportunity to instruct them in the Word of God, believing that it alone has the power to change a life! For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 5

Guest Speakers Janie Alfred Word In Life Ministries - Murrieta, California Janie Alfred was born in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1948. Janie went to High School in Brazil: Escola Bandeirantes. She went to college at Mississippi State University and Belhaven University. Janie gave her life to the Lord in February of 1967. Janie taught kindergarten and was a 1st grade aide from 1970-1986. She was the Dean of Women and a teacher at Calvary Chapel Bible College from 1997-1999. She also was a teacher at Calvary Murrieta Christian School from 2002-2010. She has been a retreat speaker since 1982. Janie and her husband, Justin, have been married for 48 years and have five girls, one of whom tragically lost her life at 19 years of age. They have six grandchildren. She has been a pastor s wife for over 48 years. Janie is the oldest of four children. Her parents, Bob and Billie Lytton were missionaries in Brazil from 1961-1971. In January 1971, Janie s parents, sister and brother were flying from the United States back to the mission field when their plane crashed in Chile. Her parents and sister were killed in the crash but her brother survived. Currently, Janie travels all over the United States and to many other countries teaching and encouraging women at conferences, retreats, and other women s events. Worship Rob & Heidi Paoletti & the Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia Worship Team Rob is an assistant pastor and oversees the Worship Ministry at Calvary Chapel of Philadelphia. Rob and his wife, Heidi, have been married for 31 years. They have three daughters and one grandson. As a couple, God has gifted them in an amazing way as they lead worship together. 6
