August 31, 2018 Would You be Interested in Acting as a Grandparent? We aren t always lucky enough to have family nearby. Maybe your children and grandchildren live out of state, or maybe your family has moved away from parents and grandparents. We d like to help you connect with families of First School and from within our congregation. If interested, contact Kristi Button. We want to make the connection this Sunday in preparation for the one hour grandparent s day connection with First School next week. Grandparents Day will be celebrated September 6 and 7 from 11 o clock until noon at First School. Children will have crafts to work on and show their grandparents. At 11:30 a.m., a reception will be served in Fellowship Hall. Come and be a grandparent for an hour! Two other events will be fun for grandparents this year: The talent show for the child or class with whom you connect and a 1

Christmas program. Watch this space for more information! Our fall worship series, Following after the Servant, will begin September 9. 9/9 With All Your Heart and with All Your Soul (communion) 9/16 Not to be Served, but to Serve 9/23 Service and Sacrifice 9/30 Washing One Another s Feet Daily Devotionals This Sunday's Scripture September 29 - October 6 Saturday, September 8 All adults are welcome and encouraged to participate in this fun opportunity to help us all get better acquainted. We will begin at the church before splitting into groups and traveling to members homes. Those who sign up will be asked to host a course but are not required to host. Childcare will be provided at the Church upon request. For more information or to sign up, please visit the Fellowship Ministry Team table this Sunday or register here. Reservations are due by this Sunday! You re invited to join the Arkansas Presbytery Honduras mission trip. We will travel to Tegucigalpa and stay at the Presbyterian Women of Honduras Villa Gracia. The focus of the trip will be on meeting, worshiping, and sharing with Honduran congregations and their members. Leigh Woodruff is facilitating trip arrangements and Phil Butin will lead the trip in Honduras. For more information, contact Leigh. The estimated cost per person is $1,500. Scholarships are available. 2

Spiritual Growth For All Ages Sundays from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Children's Opportunities (All are Welcome at God s Table) Preschoolers meet in Upper Knox with Ruth Rodgers and Lora Horne. Kindergarten First Graders meet in Upper Knox with Lea Millett. Second Fourth Graders meet in Lower Knox with Melissa Werner and Sara Eichmann. Fifth Sixth Graders meet in Lower Knox with Hillary Fischer and Rob Button. Youth Opportunities Eighth Ninth Grade Confirmation Group meets in Lower Knox with Lorraine Brewer and Tom Verdery. Seventh Twelfth Graders meet in Lower Witherspoon with Jacob and Brianne Christiansen for a service opportunity. Adult Opportunities The Present Word: God s World and God s People, led by Dennis Brewer and Jane Steinkraus in Calvin 203, is surveying Genesis in a three part unit on God s creation of the universe, earth, and people. Our Come As You Are, drop-in opportunity is led by Brett and Sara Torbett in Upper Witherspoon. This group will be discussing Recapturing the Wonder: Transcendent Faith in a Disenchanted World by Mike Cosper. Thoughtful Christians is led by Rev. Phil Butin and Derrik Olsen in Calvin 201. Our discussion will be based on the book, Searching for Truth: Confessing Christ in an Uncertain World by Thomas W. Currie III. CURRENT ANNOUNCEMENTS AND UPCOMING EVENTS Our September Meet & Eat is Thursday, September 6, at 6:00 p.m. at Whole Hog Café (3009 N. College Ave.). Mount Comfort Presbyterian Church is offering a free concert Friday, September 7, at 6:30 p.m. Tower Lights, a five-man all-vocal christian band will be preforming a variety of musical styles from southern gospel to contemporary. Our Healthy Marriages group kicks off this year on September 7, 6:00-8:30 p.m. We ll have a brief discussion followed by couple Date Night at a restaurant of your choice. Childcare is provided with reservation a week ahead. All are welcome. Contact the Church Office for reservations (442-4411 or officemanager@fupcfay.org). The Presbyterian Women s Fall Coffee is Saturday, September 8, 10:00-11:30 a.m. Please join us at the home of Katie Jackson for brunch. We will be carpooling from the church and Butterfield Trail Village. Please let your circle coordinator or the Church Office (442-4411) know if you are interested in carpooling by Thursday, September 6. New study guides will be available at the coffee for $10. For directions, contact Katie Jackson (879-1849). Our young Adult lunch will be Sunday, September 9 immediately following the 11 o clock worship. Let us treat you to lunch! All young adults are welcome to join us. Meet by the coffee bar 3

and we will decide where to eat together. We have missed you over the summer and can't wait to reconnect! Middle School Ministry will kick off the year with bowling! Fifth and sixth graders are invited to go bowling on Sunday, September 16. We will gather outside Lower Witherspoon at 1:45 p.m. before heading to Ozark Lanes. We will return to the church at 4:15 p.m. This is a great opportunity to get to know Hillary Fischer and Rob Button, your Spiritual Growth leaders, and other middle schoolers. Bring a friend and join us! UPY Lake Day has been rescheduled for Sunday, September 16, 12:30-8:30 p.m. Come spend an afternoon on Beaver Lake. Friends are welcome! Please be sure to give permission forms to Brianne Christiansen (bchristiansen@fupcfay.org). If you have already turned in your form, please check in with Brianne so that we know who will be coming! The Taizé Prayer Service will be Sunday, September 16 at 4:00 p.m. This participatory prayer service is designed for contemplation through song, scripture, and silence. The different tempo of the service encourages us to break away from the hurried sense of our lives and breathe in the presence of the Father, Son, and Spirit. First Fellowship will meet at 11:30 p.m., Thursday, September 27, at Butterfield Trail Village. Rev. Jan Butin will present Healthy Congregations: Some Impressions from her summer sabbatical. For reservations call the Church Office (442-4411) or Ron Talbert (841-9742) by September 24. It is time to sign up for Junior High Youthquake! All six-eighth graders are invited to join us for our fall presbytery retreat, September 28-30. Cost is $95. Scholarships are available. For more information or to register, contact Brianne Christiansen (bchristiansen@fupcfay.org) by Wednesday, September 5. YOGA meets on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. Each class will cost $5 per person. Friends of all ages are welcome. They do not meet the first Tuesday of each month. ZUMBA meets on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m. All ages are invited to join! The cost is $5 per person.
