Therefore, my beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always excelling in the work of the Lord, because you know that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:58 The first thing that comes to mind when we get into the month of September is Labor Day Weekend. According to the Department of Labor s website (http://www.dol.gov/laborday/history.htm), Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. Below is the first Labor Day parade held on September 5, 1882. September is the month that our country celebrates the gift of labor with Labor Day weekend. At Advent, we too celebrate the gift of Labor Day weekend, but we also take it another step by joining together throughout the community of Augusta in serving our Lord through God s Work, Our Hands weekend, September 12th and 13th. Our service ministry has worked tirelessly arranging for ways in which we can use our labor to do God s work in this world. This year there will be chances to clean up, paint buildings, fill bags of rice, make sandwiches, help with animals, and so much more. No matter your age, strength, or abilities, there are ways you too can participate in serving our Lord through this church-wide endeavor. Last year was our first year participating in God s Work, Our Hands weekend, as seen in the picture. Please help us to grow and build on last year s event as we continue this annual service event. As we worship and serve together, may we always share the grace and love of God with everyone we encounter for, in the Lord, our Labor is not in vain. In Christ s love, Pastor Jason and Pastor Andrea
