Connect Grow Serve Share Community Reflections APRIL, 2015 A publication of The Marysville Free Methodist Church Easter Is JUST the BEGINNING! Beginning Easter Sunday, millions of people will be watching A.D. The Bible Continues on NBC TV. This powerful 12-week series begins with the crucifixion and tells the story of the first 10 chapters of the book of Acts. These 10 chapters tell powerful stories and demonstrate the faith of the early believers. The book that many call the Acts of the Apostles is the major historical account of the primitive Christian period from a Christian point of view. As the church spread from Jerusalem to Rome, this recorded history leaves no question to the progress and development of the church. It was not the product of human achievement, not even the efforts of a Peter or a Paul, but the manifestation of Jesus Christ in the lives of the apostles. With its many references to the Holy Spirit, the Acts of the Apostles reveals the development of early Christianity as being beyond the control of human endeavor. God was manifesting Himself among the people. It s an exciting bible book and we ll be using the mini-series as a jumping point for our Sunday messages. We ll us film clips in each Sunday message. Our desire is to have you not only learn key teaching content from the bible. We also want you to be able to feel what is written with your senses and then translate this praise of God s story into action which honors God as your Lord. This is worship. This is loving God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind and others as yourself. We encourage you to read a chapter of Acts 1-10 each week. The producers of the movie are a couple who are Christ followers and have produced a previous epic on the life of Christ. Remember, everything we have from our Bibles to our building to our crosses to films about the bible story are symbols about God. We unpack these symbols by the leading of the Holy Spirit to help us understand God and more importantly live for God as he calls us to live for him. Every year in our Christian calendar we remember the gift of the Christ at Advent. Then we remember Jesus and his journey to the cross during Lent. And every year we remember the death and the resurrection of Jesus, the God Man. But, we know that his life story was just the beginning of what he came to do. This Jesus looking God came to build up a Jesus looking people and a Jesus looking Kingdom. Join us each Sunday over the next few months as we look at the Book of the Acts of the Apostles to see how the timid frightened followers of Jesus empowered by the Holy Spirit became resurrection people who turned the world upside down. Get ready to see yourself in the incredible story which is our ongoing story. Joyfully, Pastor Vic
