GROWING OUR FAITH SHAPING GENERATIONS a campaign for our lady of victory parish and john f. kennedy catholic school

The people we have come to know over the years love this parish and its strong history. They are truly sincere and caring. Our efforts today will maintain our great traditions and help the parish continue to grow and flourish. We hope to give back just a little of what we have received. Bill and Francie Lovewell Advanced Gifts Chairs From the Pastor s Desk Dear Members and Friends of Our Lady of Victory Parish, At Mass on Pentecost we prayed Psalm 104 with its refrain, Lord, send out your Spirit and renew the face of the earth. When the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles, they received power and courage to continue the ministry of Christ. Ever since, the Holy Spirit has provided the rich variety of spiritual gifts to build and animate the Body of Christ on earth. The Holy Spirit was at work when our parish was founded and throughout its remarkable history. The dedication and sacrifices of our charter members provided first our school and then the church. The priests residence soon followed, and then about 20 years ago, parishioners were inspired to build a parish center and expand the school. Our parish buildings provide a spiritual home for faith formation and education, the celebration of the Sacraments, and charitable works. Led by the Spirit, parish leaders in recent times identified certain church and school needs to be addressed, and you were invited to participate in a feasibility study. Responses from parishioners enabled the leaders to concentrate on the most important needs and let go of a few loftier goals. With my endorsement, and after many months of collaboration, we determined the need for a major capital campaign named Growing our Faith Shaping Generations. We need to raise $2.4 million to fund the projects for church and school described herein. To achieve our goal requires large commitments of time, talent, prayer and treasure. We need, and I expect, participation by all parish members. Prompted by the Spirit, may you find joy in your giving and be blessed by our most generous God. Thank you for joining your parish leaders and me in this campaign to grow in faith and love. Please pray for success! Sincerely yours in the Spirit of Christ, Msgr. James Parizek

Enhance & Renew The Growing Our Faith Shaping Generations campaign seeks to enhance and renew our parish campus. Through a process of discernment that began three years ago and examined the needs of all of the demographics in our vibrant parish, the campaign is tied very closely to our parish mission statement: Our Lady of Victory is a parish community, guided by the Holy Spirit, striving to grow in union and love with God and with each other. Grateful for God s blessings, we are stewards of God s love through sharing our gifts and talents. Our mission is to build a faith community by living the Gospel of Christ through prayer and sacraments, education and faith formation, and social action and service to others. This $2.4 million campaign meets the challenge of providing for all generations of our community by: renewing the infrastructure of our campus gathering space today s families and current educational standards Each of us has been blessed by those who came before us. We have the responsibility to give back from what God has given us to care for our needs now and in the future.

Our Needs CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS The Growing Our Faith Shaping Generations campaign seeks to improve the infrastructure of our spiritual home. Capital improvements that preserve the existing beauty, integrity and function of our campus are a strong priority. In recent years, we have remodeled and modernized two primary restrooms at school, replaced the cooling tower and boiler at church, completed the installation of energy efficient windows in the school, renovated one restroom at church for handicap-friendly access, remodeled the rectory kitchen, replaced windows and entry doors at the rectory, and substantially improved the media center. Funding for these projects totaling over $350,000 came from parish reserves and annual budgets, Ladies Council and other donations plus successful community grant applications. As part of our proactive maintenance approach, a total roof replacement has been scheduled for the school gym during the summer of 2008. Funding will come from existing parish reserves. Other major improvement items planned as part of the campaign include: Architect rendering subject to change Parking Lot Existing asphalt shows major stress to the point where patching and pothole repairs are no longer feasible. Our contractor recommends a 2 asphalt overlay to cover the old pavement. To insure stability and reduce future maintenance measures, a polypropylene fabric insert will be added before applying the overlay. Lighting Fluorescent lighting in the school will be replaced with energy efficient fixtures that reduce utility costs and provide a more conducive learning environment. Ceiling Tiles To create a pleasant, welcoming atmosphere that is inviting for students and families, ceiling tiles will be added to the exposed areas, and discolored, worn materials will be replaced. Church Roof This roof is in fair condition. Spot repairs have kept large improvements at bay and extended the roof life. The gutters and downspouts are in poor shape, and their condition requires that we plan for a complete roof replacement in the next few years.

EDUCATION AND FAITH FORMATION Outstanding educational and faith formation programs have characterized Our Lady of Victory since its inception. New and renovated spaces are necessary to fulfill the needs of today s families and meet current educational standards and practices. Classroom space is needed to accommodate two sections of each grade level in K-8. projected to continue to grow. pupils, not the 30-35 students of years ago. which are taught by specialized teachers today. and youth ministry includes junior high age youth. shared classrooms and the parish center should be reduced. Early childhood space is needed for a growing pre-school and to meet the needs of our working families. We have benefited from the sacrifices that parishioners made in the past. It is our responsibility to do the same and provide for future generations. Randy and Kathy Peterson General Co-Chairs Office space and a secure entryway are needed to provide safety, security, efficiency, and privacy. provide better service to students, families, and staff. Our Needs SPACE FOR GATHERING OUR COMMUNITY OF FAITH Designs for the gathering space in the Growing Our Faith...Shaping Generations campaign take inspiration from Ephesians 2:21-22: Through Him the whole structure is fitted together and takes shape as a holy temple in the Lord, in Him you are being built into His temple, to become a dwelling place for God in the Spirit. Our parish founders constructed space for prayer and the celebration of the sacraments nearly five decades ago. Our Lady of Victory, after three years of intense research, discussion and sharing, looks forward to dedicating additional space for future generations. In conjunction with other parish re-construction projects, the proposed gathering space advances these goals, in line with our mission statement: Foster a Welcoming and Caring Community welcome parishioners in from the outside, and provide a place where they can visit before and after celebrations. glass window to the west. The current location of the window will be glass, allowing a view of the sanctuary for those gathered there. Develop community through Faith Formation & Education the celebration of sacraments, the heart of our parish life. Here school and faith formation family learning events can take place, with space for displays. nurse visits, small group meetings, bride and groom dressing rooms, a family room for funeral visitations, space for children s Liturgy of the Word, and marriage preparation conferences. The Project Scope This project includes the gathering space, two multipurpose rooms, ADA compliant rest rooms, an elevator from the parking lot to the main level of church, a permanent baptismal font, and a small kitchenette. The parking lot will undergo resurfacing when new construction is completed. Changes will also be made to increase the number of parking spaces for persons with disabilities. Build community through Prayer & Sacraments before and after the celebrations may do so, while others may pray quietly at the same time in the church. guidelines for current church environment documents, and emphasizes the role of Baptism in creating and sustaining true community life. As charter members, we feel it is our responsibility to maintain what we have built as well as provide for future generations. Tom and Darlene Nolan Honorary Chairs
