If there is a last minute need, just let Leslie know and she will cover or find coverage. *** You are welcome to bring a craft, lesson, or DVD for the Children to do on your Sunday. It is getting colder outside, so we may not always be able to go outside during this time. *** Smarties and Dum-Dum suckers can be found in the second bottom white cabinet in the breezeway if you want to give them a treat. *** We want the children to sign 2-3 cards every Sunday (Get Well, Sympathy, Cheer, Congratulations, etc.). Leslie will give you those prior to church every Sunday and retrieve them from you after Church so that she can mail them. We also have "We Missed You this week at church" cards and postcards. *** The Children are also wanting to have little after-church fundraisers at different times during the next few months to earn money for their "Imagine No Malaria" fundraiser. We will get info to you as available on that, but it would be little things the kids could put together during Children s Church time and then have available for the congregation after church for donations or specified amounts (almost like a lemonade stand type set-up). Any ideas and help with this would be greatly appreciated! *** See Leslie, Stephanie, or Heather for any questions. Kindness counts Make blankets or scarves for homeless people. Send a care package to someone who s in college or the military. Collect coins for a charity or cause. When you can t attend an event, give the tickets to strangers. Provide tutoring or mentoring in your field of expertise. Offer to babysit or pet-sit for free. Send a note of appreciation to someone who s made a difference in your life. Share your gifts of music, reading or conversation at a nursing home. Donate old sports equipment to schools. Give someone the benefit of the doubt maybe even a family member or yourself!

The youth and leaders would like to thank the church family for all of their support this past year. Greg and I have been blessed by the youth and the time we have spent with them getting to know their personalities. When I gave them their Christmas gifts, I included a picture of our group from the Christmas play. I reminded them that they are all very unique in their own way and even though at times they may get on each other s nerves at the end of the day, they need to remember that they do have each other through thick and thin. We are looking forward to exciting things in the New Year, below is what we have planned for this year so far. Resurrection: January 22 nd thru January 24 th Please remember that Resurrection is paid for and the cabin has been booked. The youth had until November 30th to let us know if they would not be able to attend, if any cancellations are made now the church will lose the money for that persons ticket. We will be leaving the church at noon on January 22 nd and heading to Pigeon Forge, TN, the plan is to rent a passenger van so all of the youth can ride together in one vehicle. We are limiting them to one bag a piece for the weekend and a backpack to keep with them in their seat. We will have a meeting with the parents on January 10 th to go over any last min details. Hands and Feet: February 26 th thru Feb 28 th Please let me know if any of the youth will not be able to attend for any reason Winter Jam: March 26 th in Charlotte NC- we will ride the light rail and eat downtown before the show. If the parents and the youth have not downloaded the teamapp please do so, this is the easiest way for us to communicate with everyone at the same time. It is an easy app to download onto your phone, it has a calendar of events, a place to chat, and I will be able to update everyone to any changes all at one time. We are looking forward to great things in 2016. Felicia and Greg

From the Pastor's Desk... Happy New Year!! I am so excited to see what 2016 will bring for each of us. The start of a new year can feel great for so many reasons. It is a new beginning. It is a clean slate. It is a time to refocus and look forward. It is new and undamaged. It is fresh and not yet touched with disappointment or hurt. Everything has hope to be new and better. A new year also means a new theme for my newsletter articles. For each month in 2016, I will focus on a church sign that I find in my travels. I will take the picture and share with you an insight. Rules for this game will include two things: 1) I will not troll the Internet looking for the craziest church sign messages, and 2) this is in NO way a request for Tabernacle to get this kind of sign. So here it is - actual messages that pastors/churches choose to put on their signs as messages to the world. (Some of this you just can't make up!) Let's start with a sign just over the state line from us. This is from Turner Presbyterian Church in Monroe, NC. If you look closely, you will notice that this is my father-in-law's church. My inspiration this month came from family. I decided to start the new year with a sign that has a great message and an important reminder for each of us. PEACE ON EARTH GOODWILL TOWARD MANKIND. So simple. So pure. So important. But it appears by the standards of the world around us to be most difficult to actually do. What does peace look like? I think that 2015 had so much violence in it. I believe we need to show the world through our words and actions that we believe in PEACE for EVERYONE. So imagine that you have one of these signs on you. What would it say? What message are you showing the world that is helpful? Are any of your messages to the world harmful? Do you advocate for peace and justice? What do your words and actions tell others about your faith? Remember, it is a new year and there is new hope. But do not forget where your hope comes from. John 16:33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." Grace and Peace, Pastor Heather
