The Prayer Shield. The following guideline is an adaptation of The Prayer Shield from KingsGate Community Church in Peterborough where Dave Smith is the Senior Leader. Dave Smiths teaching on prayer is fantastic and I cannot recommend it highly enough. In the booklet The Prayer Shield they have produced, they are looking out for each other in prayer everyday and covering each other in Prayer. Dave encourages all in his congregation to follow these steps everyday, all year. In order to make it relevant to our situation, we have changed the wording in small ways in a few places as we don't have the same structure here in Colchester as they have in the large church in Peterborough. What is The Prayer Shield? We believe that as we each pray, our prayers become like interlocking shields which surround us on every side, protecting us from any attack of the enemy and releasing God s blessing and favour over our lives. The more of us that pray, the greater the prayer covering over the life of the church and the more we can accomplish for the Kingdom of God. Surely, Lord, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favour as with a shield. Psalm 5:12 John Wesley said God does nothing on earth save in answer to believing prayer. There is incredible power in prayer! When we pray we are taking hold of all that Christ won for us on the cross, and releasing it here on earth seeing it established in our lives, our communities, nation and in the nations. PRAYER is not a lame last response to issues that appear too big. PRAYER is the "spiritual fuel" that somehow empowers the miracles! "Every time we take up our spiritual weapons and use them against the strongholds of the enemy, we are placing our explosive charges in strategic places - and sooner or later the Holy Detonator of Heaven is going to say, "Enough!" There will be a mighty explosion in the spirit, a stronghold will crumble to the ground and a person will fall to their knees." Matthew 21:22 (AMP) if My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Philippians 4:6 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. Ephesians 6:18

How to pray the Prayer Shield Set aside 10-15 minutes each day to pray over the areas covered in this booklet for: Yourself and your family The Leadership Team and their families The Church Your friends in the Church Find a time and a place that works best for you. The Prayer Shield does not replace your normal personal devotions, but can be prayed as part of them if that time of day and space alone works well for you. Alternatively you may like to make this something you do every morning before you begin the day s activities, or last thing at night before you head to bed. Whatever works best for you! There is a different prayer emphasis for each day, which you can pray over each of the groups above. As we lift this prayer covering over the life of the church and all we are believing to see God do in this town, region, nation and beyond, let s pray with boldness and confidence knowing that when we pray in line with His Word and His will, He hears us and answers! This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us whatever we ask we know that we have what we asked of him. 1 John 5:14-15

MONDAYS Health and Protection Pray divine health over each person in the church; pray that every part of their body will function as it was designed to function and that they will live a long and healthy life. Where there are health challenges, command all sickness to leave and pray for full health and strength to return to their body. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed. Isaiah 53:5 Then they cry to the Lord in their trouble, and He delivers them from out of their distresses. He sends forth His Word and heals them and rescues them from the pit and destruction. Psalm 107:19-20 (AMP) Pray that every person will maintain a healthy work/life balance, getting the proper rest they need and working from a place of strength and refreshment. Come to me all you who labour and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.] Matthew 11:28 (AMP) Pray a hedge of protection around each person, that the Lord would surround them, shelter them from all attacks of the enemy, and keep them safe and at peace. If you make the Most High your dwelling even the Lord, who is my refuge then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; Psalm 91:9-11

TUESDAY - Provision Pray that each person will make sure their finances are in right, Godly order, stewarding what s been entrusted to them well. "Honour God with everything you own; give Him the first and the best. Your barns will burst; your wine vats will brim over." Proverbs 3:9-10 (MSG) Pray against all fear of lack and economic uncertainty. Where people are in debt or difficulty, pray they will put their trust firmly in God who is their provider. And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 For the Lord God is a sun and shield; The Lord will give grace and glory; No good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly. Psalm 84:11 Pray protection over jobs and for businesses to thrive. Pray for any who are currently out of work to find jobs. Pray against a spirit of greed and materialism, pray that each person will be generous with what they have in their hands, big or small. Pray for abundance more than enough to achieve all that God has for us to do individually and corporately. "Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment." 1 Timothy 6:17 A generous man will prosper; he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed. Proverbs 11:25 Now He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. 2 Corinthians 9:10-12

WEDNESDAYS - Relationships Pray for blessing, unity and protection over peoples relationships: Pray that marriages will be blessed. Let marriage be held in honour (esteemed worthy, precious, of great price, and especially dear) in all things. And thus let the marriage bed be undefiled (kept undishonoured); Hebrews 13:4 (AMP) Pray for strong relationships between parents and children. Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. "Honour your father and mother" which is the first commandment with a promise "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:1-4 Pray for Godly friendships to flourish and that we would spur one another on to grow in our faith. The righteous should choose his friends carefully, for the way of the wicked leads them astray. Proverbs 12:26 A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17 Pray against all strife, gossip, bitterness, unforgiveness, distraction, and against any plan of the enemy to bring division at Hope Church. Walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with long-suffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1 Pray that we would be a people of love, walking in peace, unity, grace, forgiveness, compassion, honour and care as a church family. Pray we would be an example to our town, region and nation of God s love as we demonstrate it to all those around us. Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honour one another above yourselves. Romans 12:10 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:1-4 By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another. John 13:35

THURSDAYS - Spiritual Maturity Pray that each person will commit to keeping short accounts with God, confessing their sins and choosing to live a life of obedience and intimacy with God. Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9 Pray that each person will continue to become more Christ-like, growing in their knowledge and relationship with God and committing to; reading the Word, a lifestyle of worship, prayer, seeing signs and wonders in our midst, demonstrating the love of God to others and actively sharing the message of Jesus with those around them. Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus... Philippians 2:5 Pray that we would be a committed people, putting down roots, regularly attending and contributing to the life of the church. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. Psalm 92:13 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the Day approaching. Hebrews 10:24-25 Pray for wisdom, favour, blessing and insight over our leaders, that they would hear God clearly and lead with authority and anointing. Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men that must give an account. Obey them so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of not advantage to you. Hebrews 13:17 I urge you, first of all, to pray for all people. Ask God to help them; intercede on their behalf, and give thanks for them. Pray this way for kings and all who are in authority so that we can live peaceful and quiet lives marked by godliness and dignity. This is good and pleases God our Saviour, 1 Timothy 2:1-3

FRIDAYS - Destiny and purpose Pray that God s Kingdom will come and His will be done in each person s life, in our town, region, nation and the nations. Pray that each one will understand they were created with a purpose, part of God s plan for humanity, and that they have a unique calling and destiny to fulfil: For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10 Pray that every person on your list would give their all for the Kingdom of God, each playing their part and using the gifts they have been given to serve the purposes of God. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Romans 12:11 Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not men, because you know that the Lord will reward everyone for whatever good he does. Ephesians 6:7-8 Pray that as a church Hope will fulfil the mandate God has given us, seeing lives transformed from our neighbourhoods to the nations by the power of God s love. Pray that the global Church would rise up as the army of God affecting change in all areas of life; government, business, schools, the community... that we would be salt and light to the world, demonstrating the goodness and the glory of God. You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16 The church, you see, is not peripheral to the world; the world is peripheral to the church. The church is Christ's body, in which he speaks and acts, by which he fills everything with his presence. Ephesians 1:22-23 (MSG)

SATURDAYS - Salvation Pray that each person would demonstrate the love and goodness of God to all those around them, that they would have a do disturb sign on each day looking for who they can be kind to, who they can reach out to. Offer yourself to God to be used by Him today, and pray for opportunities even in the busyness of life to take moments to connect with others and be a blessing. Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect. 1 Peter 3:15. Pray that we would see people giving their lives to God at Hope, that we would be a missional people always seeking to help others connect with Christ. Pray we would each grasp that this life is temporary but that what we do here has an effect in eternity. Pray we would live in the light of this, each taking responsibility to reach as many people as we can with the good news of the Gospel. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19 Write the names of those you are praying for and believing to see come to salvation: Pray for each by name, that God would: Open their eyes to see their need of Him. Bring people into their path to share/demonstrate the goodness of God to them (look for opportunities to be one of those people!). Take away any obstacles or arguments they may have against God and His Church. Pray for the Holy Spirit to be working in their hearts, convicting them of sin and bringing them to a place of openness and repentance. Pray that they will come along to an Alpha Course or other event at Hope. God our Saviour wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all men. 1 Timothy 2:4-5 When He (the Holy Spirit) comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgement: John 16:8 I (Jesus) am sending you to them (the lost) to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in Me. Acts 26:17-18

SUNDAYS - Corporate Gatherings Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the Father seeks. John 4:23 Pray for an open heaven every time we gather together to glorify God. Pray against any tactics of the enemy that would seek to distract people from entering into worship. Pray for anointing on the Worship Team and sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. Pray that God would touch the lives of people as they focus on Him and put Him first pray for healing, salvation, burdens to be lifted even as we worship. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know Him better. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints Ephesians 1:17-18 Pray for anointing on the speaker and that peoples hearts will be receptive to the Word whenever it is preached; that they would have ears to hear what God is speaking personally to them. Pray for a spirit of revelation and understanding for each person. Pray against any distractions of the enemy or any resistance to what is being preached. Pray that people would not only hear the Word, but would apply it to their own lives and be doers of the Word. Pray that our children and young people will come to personal faith themselves, growing in their own walk with the Lord and loving and serving Him all their days. Pray for the power and presence of God to be manifest powerfully whenever we come together. Pray that we would never go through the motions of a service, but would open our hearts and lives to the Living God and come expectant whenever we meet.

Friday Blessing Framework (adapted from Ffald-Y-Brenin Friday Blessings) Heavenly Father, we take upon ourselves the mantle of authority that Jesus delegates to us and in His Name we speak to every household in Colchester and its surrounding villages (Colchester Area) and say to you:- We bless you in the Name of the Lord. We bless your marriages that they may be strong and whole. We bless the relationship between every marriage partner that it may be loving, forgiving, merciful and strong. We bless every intergenerational relationship within each house hold that there may be peace and love and understanding flowing between each one. In Jesus' name we bless every network of wholesome and supportive friendship. We bless your health that you may be strong and well. In Jesus' name we resist any sickness of disease which seeks to invade the Colchester area and to every person in the area we say, be well, be strong, be healthy. To any who are sick right now we say bless you in Jesus' name with a speedy recovery. We bless your wealth that you may have plenty to replace poverty. We bless you to have enough to live and enough to give. We bless the work of your hands that whatever you turn your hand to which is wholesome may be profitable. We bless every wholesome enterprise that is conducted by you that it may prosper and be successful. We bless the schools in the Colchester area that they may be secure, safe places for teachers and pupils alike. We bless every child's capacity to learn and develop relationships and we bless their simple trust in Jesus, that they may grow and become enriched. We speak to the Churches in the Colchester area and we say bless you in the Name of the Lord that the Holy Spirit and the Word of God may flow out from you in power. We bless the hearts of all who live in the Colchester area and that you may be quickened to hear and respond to the Voice of the Living God. We bless all who live and work in the Colchester area, that the overspill of the blessings of the presence of the Kingdom of God may fall upon you.
