St. Timothy Catholic Church 13807 Poplar Tree Road Chantilly, Virginia 20151 My Dear Friends, I have always loved the Season of Advent as it is the time to deepen and intensify our personal relationship with Jesus Christ and to prepare ourselves to commemorate both his first Coming as a Gentle Persuader and his second coming as the Just Judge. Remember the question asked of our Lord by the rich young man: What must I do to inherit eternal life?. This is a question that should echo in our own hearts. Jesus answer immediately directs our attention to the Father and His Commandments there is only one who is good you know the commandments. Our response may be that of the rich young man: I have kept the commandments. Jesus next response is the same toward us: go sell give follow me. He wants our entire being, all the generosity, love, and trust of our heart. So many times the Scriptures tell us that we are to put ourselves and our resources at the service of the Mystical Body of Christ. The many gifts that Almighty God has bestowed on us are to be used in the service of others. This is the gift of our Time, Talent, and Treasure. This is the Christian concept of Stewardship. We have been called to be disciples and stewards, receivers of Christ and givers of ourselves. Our lives are to be models of Christian Love, demonstrated by Christ, the perfect model. We at times struggle to achieve this and must, as did Christ, sacrifice a part of ourselves for the benefit of others. We are always being called to deepen our commitment as disciples of Jesus Christ. First, with regard to time, I ask that each of us intensify and deepen our time in prayer: asking Our Lord what do you desire of me?. If you are not already doing it, spend time praying as a family. Read and reflect upon the Holy Scriptures come to know Him in His Word. If you can, spend time before Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Currently, we have Adoration on Wednesdays in the Church. In a few weeks, we ll be re-opening our Adoration Chapel Monday through Saturday. Second, with regard to talent, I ask that you consider volunteering some through our Parish Ministries. Some of you that have very beautiful singing voices, please consider joining the choir. For those that have beautiful speaking voices, consider becoming a Lector. We also have need for ushers and serving our poor through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Join one of the prayer groups or even start your own. Please talk to the Lord and find out what He is asking of you so as to spread the Good News. Please visit our website to get more information on our ministries. Finally, with regard to treasure. I know that you are aware of the rising costs of maintaining a household. Our parish is no different. The expense of running our various ministries and maintaining the physical plant are going up. So I am asking for your help. We rely on your weekly offertory contributions to support these programs and facilities, and we need to increase our offertory. Please discern your financial commitment to our parish, and determine if you are in a position to increase your contribution. You may do so by creating or updating your Faith Direct account now (www.faithdirect.net, parish code VA13) or by using your offertory envelopes.
